The Role:

The Commercial Accountant will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the finance elements of the order-to-cash (O2C) process. They will be responsible for raising invoices, credit control, and the posting of Revenue and Gross Margin journals. 

They will be a first point of contact in Finance for the Sales and Customer Excellence functions and support the Financial Reporting Manager (FRM) in partnering with those functions to deliver the business’ goals.

Although they have no formal management responsibility, it is expected that the CSA will be a positive role model to the Accounts Assistants and assist in their coaching & development.

Please note that this is a 12-month fixed-term contract, to cover maternity leave. 

This is a hybrid role, with a requirement to be onsite at our Oxford offices Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday where possible. 

Primary responsibilities for this role include:

Accounts Receivable (AR) and Credit Control

  • Raising invoices from sales orders upon fulfilment of orders, including prompt processing at month-end to meet month-end close deadlines
  • Raising credit notes when required and ensuring they’re appropriately matched to invoices.
  • Management of the AR inbox, responding to queries and invoicing issues promptly.
  • Assist the Accounts Assistants to ensure cash received is appropriately allocated to customer invoices.
  • Maintain the AR ledgers, including month end reconciliation of the AR balance to the trial balance, investigating and resolving differences.
  • Responsible for cash collection by chasing customers for timely payments and issuing dunning letters as required.
  • Production of weekly ageing reports with commentary.
  • Management of “on hold” customers, notifying the Sales, Customer Excellence and Logistics teams and working with them to resolve issues, assisted by the FRM in more complex instances.

Revenue and Gross Margin

  • Responsible for raising and posting all Revenue and Cost of Sales journals.
  • Use Netsuite to identify missing Revenue and Cost of Sales postings and work with Customer Excellence and Logistics to resolve issues where there are missing delivery and SAT dates.
  • Prepare deferred revenue and expense balance sheet reconciliations, identifying and resolving reconciling items identified by the reconciliation.
  • Support the FRM in delivering the monthly Revenue and Gross Margin and assist in investigating and understanding variances to budget.

Other O2C process:

  • Assist the Sales and Customer Excellence team to ensure sales orders are loaded and approved in Netsuite swiftly and accurately.
  • Responsible for updating and distributing bookings and backlog reporting to the business.
  • Have a strong understanding of the broader O2C process and be able to assist the business with routine queries, including assisting in the confirmation of financial details (e.g. bank letters).

We are ideally looking for someone with the following skills and experience:

  • Part ACCA or CIMA qualified required, or equivalent experience
  • Experience in accounts payable or similar roles
  • Strong process adherence and focus, with adaptability for change
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent planning, organisational, and a strong eye for detail
  • Professional and enthusiastic demeanour, with an eye for detail.
