What is the job?
We are looking for a CNC Programmer to support the R&D and Manufacturing departments with programming and machining of new components.  Take an active role in process improvements and promote collaboration and knowledge sharing between departments and team members.

Working Hours: Monday to Friday 8am – 4:30 pm

We use these products in manufacturing and research, from fibre optics to piezo motors. We are the gold standard with optics laboratories worldwide. There are now 22 facilities across the world in 9 countries. Here in Ely, we are responsible for the Motion Control and Optical Tables product line.

Where you will be working?

Our purpose-built facility is just 12 miles from Cambridge, within the beautiful mediaeval city of Ely. There are train and bus links to Ely from Kings Cross and Liverpool Street London, and our site is within distance of Ely train station and Ely Bus station.

What we would like you to do/to see…

·       To program, set-up and run 3-axis and 5-axis milling centres to produce precision components from a variety of materials in a high mix, low volume environment

·       With appropriate training if required, set-up and run turning and Wire EDM CNC machines

·       Extensive use of Vericut simulation software to digitally prove-out components prior to first-off machining (training will be provided if required)

·       To collaborate closely with the R&D and Manufacturing departments to support all machining related activities, giving appropriate feedback to improve component manufacturability

·       Ensure the quality of components produced meet the manufacturing drawing requirements by using appropriate metrology tools to validate tolerances and finishes

·       Program to ensure machines are running to their maximum potential/efficiency

·       To ensure appropriate work holding and machining techniques and procedures are followed when the component is handed over to production operators

·       In collaboration with machine operators, carry out preventative maintenance routines

·       Ensure that all machining activities are carried out in accordance with the company’s safe working and environmental requirements

·       Participate in Continuous Improvement/Lean initiatives within the Machine Shop to improve efficiency, quality and volume of output

·       Maintain a culture of 5S within the Machine Shop

·       Collaborate with other departments and share knowledge and best practices amongst the team


Requirements

What is essential to us…

·       Apprenticeship trained or similar experience considered

·       Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Machine Shop environment

·       Experienced in 3-axis and 5-axis milling with consideration for minimising downtime (SMED methodologies utilising zero-point work holding)

·       Experience with Sliding Head Lathes highly desirable

·       Experience with Wire Erosion desirable but not essential

·       Experience working with micron-level precision for setup and machining

·       Experienced in understanding engineering drawings and implementing appropriate machining methods

·       Experience with Fanuc / Haas control systems

·       Use of metrology techniques and measuring parts against drawings

·       A working knowledge of CAD/ CAM software (preferably Solidworks, MasterCAM and Vericut)

·       Microsoft Office application skills
