The opportunity

Keep the hosted environments our customers rely on stable, secure and within SLA across Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS). As a key 3rd line escalation point, you'll resolve complex cloud and infrastructure issues, lead service reviews and work closely with our Senior CloudOps Engineer to improve the day-to-day running of customer environments.

This is a hands-on, customer-facing role for someone who takes ownership through to resolution, communicates clearly and keeps their technical knowledge current. You'll work across support, engineering and security teams, sharing information proactively and balancing technical decisions with customer impact.

What you'll be doing

  • Monitor the health, performance, capacity and cost of customer environments in Azure and AWS.
  • Maintain agreed service levels through patching, backups and recovery testing, identifying optimisation opportunities before they become incidents.
  • Act as the primary 3rd line escalation point for critical technical issues affecting live customers.
  • Lead the technical resolution of high-priority incidents, keeping stakeholders informed and completing root cause analysis with preventative fixes.
  • Work with engineering teams where resolution requires code or platform changes.
  • Plan and deliver changes through the change management process, including occasional evening or weekend maintenance windows.
  • Communicate maintenance plans and outcomes clearly to customers and internal teams.
  • Lead regular customer service reviews covering performance, incidents and planned improvements.
  • Produce clear environment health reports and build trusted relationships with customers' IT teams, proactively recommending improvements.
  • Apply Aareon security policies and standards, remediate vulnerabilities and manage access controls in line with policy.
  • Work with the Group Security Operations Centre on security incidents affecting hosted environments.
  • Keep runbooks, environment records and support procedures current, and share learning with the support team.
  • Automate repetitive operational tasks and contribute to improvements that increase reliability and customer satisfaction.

What we're looking for

  • At least 3 years' experience in cloud operations, infrastructure support or a similar role supporting live, customer-facing environments.
  • Hands-on experience managing Microsoft Azure, including virtual machines, virtual networks, VPN gateways, storage, Azure SQL, Key Vault, Backup and Entra ID.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across infrastructure, application and database layers, with the ability to work through complex problems without guidance.
  • Experience with monitoring and alerting tools such as Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Dynatrace or NinjaOne.
  • A good understanding of networking, DNS and SSL/TLS certificates.
  • Working knowledge of ITIL incident, problem and change management.
  • PowerShell scripting ability for operational tasks and automation.
  • Proven ability to resolve critical incidents under pressure while keeping stakeholders informed.
  • Confidence leading customer meetings and explaining complex technical issues clearly and in a structured way to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings or weekends for planned maintenance.

Great to have, but not essential

  • Proficiency in AWS alongside Azure (very desirable).
  • An engineering, infrastructure or networking background.
  • Experience with Terraform; Bicep or Ansible would also be useful.
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104).
  • ITIL Foundation certification.
  • Experience with Azure DevOps pipelines.
  • SQL Server administration and performance tuning experience.
  • Experience in a managed hosting or SaaS service provider.
  • Experience working alongside a Security Operations Centre or supporting security incident processes.

You don't need to tick every box. If you have relevant transferable experience and are excited by the opportunity, we'd still love to hear from you.

What you'll get in return

Alongside a salary of £45,000 to £55,000 and home-based working, Aareon UK offers a great range of benefits, including:

  • 5% matched pension
  • Private medical insurance after probation
  • Life assurance at 4x salary
  • £26 monthly broadband allowance
  • 2 paid volunteering days each year
  • Enhanced parental leave
  • Option to buy or sell annual leave
  • Cycle to Work and car salary sacrifice schemes

Everyone is welcome

We're committed to creating an inclusive workplace where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
