Google Cloud Network DevOps EngineerSalary: £48,987-£54,430

Locations: Manchester & Leeds

Hours: Full time

Agile Working Options: Hybrid – at least two days per week (40% of your time) in one of our offices.

Working Pattern: Some out‑of‑hours work and participation in an on‑call support rota will be required.

Role Summary

As a Cloud Platform DevOps Engineer specialising in Google Cloud Platform networking, you’ll play a pivotal role in developing, optimising and operating the networking foundations that underpin our transformation.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a forward‑thinking engineering team helping Lloyds Banking Group progress towards our ambition of becoming the UK’s largest FinTech. You’ll bring hands‑on expertise, influence technical direction and contribute to the delivery of modern cloud capabilities at scale.

We’re looking for an experienced, motivated and innovative Cloud‑focused DevOps Engineer to join our Google Cloud team. You’ll be an inspiring, hands‑on engineer with experience in DevOps or Site Reliability Engineering and a history of driving the delivery of technical platforms in enterprise environments.

What’s needed to be considered for this role?
  • Engineering experience building, configuring and optimising GCP networking at enterprise scale.
  • Strong knowledge of: Dedicated Interconnect, VPC Peering, Cloud Routers, Firewalls, Google DNS, Cloud NAT, IAM and VPC‑SC.
  • Basic understanding of GCP connected workloads such as GKE, Compute Engine, Cloud SQL, Storage and Google Data/AI products.
  • Hands‑on project experience across network deployment, scaling, optimisation, sustaining engineering and technology refresh.
  • Strong understanding of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines using Git, Terraform Cloud, HashiCorp Vault, Harness and Jenkins.
  • Ability to handle incidents and problems, advancing solutions to improve reliability.
  • Experience reviewing and providing feedback on peer code changes.
  • Proven ability to develop, deploy and own end‑to‑end product lifecycle within an engineering team.
  • Commitment to delivering engineering outcomes in line with Group Controls and Security requirements.
About you
  • Proficient in maintaining enterprise‑scale GCP networking and cross‑cloud/on‑prem connectivity.
  • Able to work closely with Networks, Systems and Software Engineering teams to ensure smooth and fast delivery of new designs and capabilities.
  • Experience with Bash and/or Python for infrastructure development.
  • Strong Terraform proficiency.
  • Able to engineer GCP networking products using Infrastructure as Code to enable new features.
  • Comfortable collaborating with architecture, business and engineering teams.
  • Naturally curious, proactive and motivated to continuously develop with modern tooling and methods.
We’ll be excited if you have:
  • A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Google Cloud Professional certification (DevOps, Network or Security).
  • Intermediate Python development skills and experience hosting APIs.
  • Experience writing guardrails in HashiCorp Sentinel.
  • Familiarity with Egress proxies, IP management, on‑prem networking, hardware firewalls, Infoblox, cloud proxy and Entra ID.
  • Experience with high‑traffic monitoring systems such as Dynatrace and Google Cloud Monitoring.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
