Overview of the Role:

This is an exciting new role within the Nuveen Clean Energy Infrastructure Core Fund team. The ECRI Fund is an open ended strategy focusing on investments in a list of core European markets on mature technologies (onshore wind, offshore wind, solar PV, storage, hydro). The fund already secured significant commitments from cornerstones investors and will focus on yield generating assets with room for some value appreciation over time. Funds will exclusively be deployed in Europe  and investment will include assets in operation and at ready to build stage.

The Nuveen Infrastructure Clean Energy team  focuses on clean energy equity investments, credit investments, and asset & portfolio management. Reporting to the Fund Managing Director, the successful candidate will be an integral and valued member of the team with a high degree of autonomy and responsibility and who will be actively involved across the full life-cycle of investments; primarily working on the origination of investment opportunity and the execution of investment transaction across Europe

As day-to-day transaction lead on acquisitions and refinancing, the new Investment Manager will lead internal and external project teams across multiple workstreams including valuations, due diligence, documentation and regulation. You will work closely with the Managing Director on the negotiation of key transaction documentation and will prepare and present investment papers for approval by the Investment Committee to ensure they make successful investment decisions in line with the fund’s strategy.

You will have ongoing exposure to the management of portfolio assets, particularly on those worked on at acquisition. When not working on transactions you will support origination, business development and fundraising efforts; developing relationships with investors, developers and advisors to ensure early sight of opportunities and keeping up to date on trends across European clean energy infrastructure.

In addition, you will help to manage, train and develop the juniors, and contribute to the positive and professional working environment at Nuveen.  Investment team Managers may have a line manager role for associates and analysts.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Transaction lead within the deal team for the full execution of fund investment transactions with a focus on onshore wind and solar PV.
  • Project manage transactions and coordinate work products across internal teams (investment and asset management) as well as from external advisors (developers, lawyers, technical advisors, debt providers,  etc.).
  • Review and supervise the production of financial models by associates/analysts, ensuring that the associate/analyst is supported to gain skills and knowledge.
  • Support Directors in origination activities and take an active role in origination on a selected number of markets and technologies in Europe.
  • Develop proprietary pipeline of potential transactions based on a network of contacts with autonomy
  • Draft investments proposals for Investment Committee approvals.
  • Working within parameters set by Directors and investment Committee, negotiate key transaction documents.
  • Ensure the efficient handover of projects to the Asset Management team and continue to offer support to them post-transaction.
  • Provide skills and knowledge transfer to more junior staff.
  • Follow the microeconomic trends of the clean teach sector (regulatory framework, tariffs, EU targets, etc), and wider power sector themes (merchant power drivers, offtake, trading, etc.).
  • Support for fund raising activities
  • At all times, be responsive to the needs of the Company over the individual targets.

Qualifications & Experience Required

Candidates must have developed a strong network in the renewable energy sector and proved ability to originate and execute transactions from door to door.

Candidates must be competent to build and operate detailed financial models; manage legal, technical, regulatory, environmental, ESG and commercial due diligence with appropriate understanding. They must have significant understanding of the political and environmental relevance of the energy sector.  Prior relevant experience gained in private equity, a sponsor-type role or investment banking experience is required, as well as:

  • Relevant working experience in the European onshore wind and/or solar PV sectors. Sector experience in other renewable energy technologies (storage, hydro) is a plus.
  • Demonstrate strong network of contacts among the universe of asset developers and owners in Southern Europe (Spain, Portugal, Italy) and Western Europe (Germany, France, Benelux), .
  • Transaction experience in the sector is essential – with demonstrable track record.
  • Significant project management, documentation and financial modelling expertise required.
  • Fluent English language skills required; additional European languages preferred.

  • Outstanding analytical skills and strong numerical reasoning.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in both a team environment and independently taking ownership for your area of responsibility.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, and proven ability to present regularly to senior level employees, as well as delivering presentations to a broader population of employees.
  • Experience of working across a global business and maintaining relationships with colleagues in different jurisdictions.
