The role
The Chief of Staff sits at the center of the CEO office, working day-to-day with the CEO, COO, CFO, and CTO. This is one of the highest-leverage roles at Primer.

The job has two dimensions. The first is making the CEO office more effective: turning thinking into action, keeping commitments on track, and absorbing work that would otherwise fragment across the executive team. The second is making the company more effective: running the operating rhythm, owning cross-functional delivery, and surfacing things that fall between teams.

This is not a coordinator role. We are looking for someone who can hold context across the entire business, move from strategy to execution without losing altitude, and be trusted to operate with minimal oversight across the full executive team.

🔍 What will you be doing?

CEO office leverage

  • Step in for the CEO, COO, and CFO on projects and workstreams that need senior ownership but not their direct time - from kicking off a critical strategic initiative to seeing a complex internal program through to completion

  • Own the follow-through on exec team decisions: turn what was agreed in a meeting into a clear next step, an owner, and a deadline - and make sure it happens

  • Run special projects end-to-end: coordinate a strategic review, build the comprehensive analysis ahead of board discussions

  • Write and sharpen the materials that represent Primer to strategic audiences: board decks, company town halls, internal newsletters

  • Sit at the intersection of product, engineering, and commercial when those teams need to move together - own the coordination so the CTO and functional leads can stay focused on the work itself

Company operating rhythm

  • Own the cadence of the business: weekly leadership sync, monthly business review, quarterly planning, and board prep

  • Work with the COO to drive OKR setting, tracking, and accountability across the leadership team

  • Work with functional leads and AI enabler to track and support AI adoption across the business, understanding what is working, what is not, and helping embed the right tools and workflows into how teams operate day to day

  • Identify and close cross-functional gaps before they become problems, regardless of which exec team owns them

  • Keep the full executive team well-informed on what is happening inside the company, including signals that do not naturally surface

👀 What we’d love to see:
  • 4 to 5 years of experience in a high-performance environment: strategy consulting, investment banking, or a fast-moving tech company

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication: clear, direct, and precise without being verbose

  • Comfort operating in ambiguity and building structure where none exists

  • Strong analytical instincts, able to cut through complexity and identify what matters

  • Organized and reliable: if you say you will do something, it gets done

  • Discretion and judgment, especially when handling sensitive commercial or organizational matters

  • Intellectual range and context switching: able to go deep on a commercial topic in the morning and review a board narrative in the afternoon

  • A genuine interest in Primer's mission and the payments infrastructure space

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English required

  • Comfortable deriving insights from data and turning them into clear narratives -- strong Spreadsheet and PowerPoint skills required, as well as experience with financial modeling. SQL experience a plus.

  • Proficient in AI tools and their practical application, with a genuine interest in how they can make the teams and functions around you more effective and experience embedding them into existing workflows is a plus.

🤝 Nice to have

  • Experience in B2B SaaS or fintech

  • Familiarity with payments, PSPs, or financial infrastructure

  • Prior experience in a startup at Series B or beyond

🚫 You may not like it here if:
  • You enjoy working in an office-setting, we are remote-first and always will be!

  • You are not comfortable with shifting context and navigating ambiguity

✅ A typical interview process
  • An initial intro call with a Talent Partner

  • An interview with the Hiring Manager

  • Challenge Stage - Contextualised to the role

  • A final, values-alignment interview

What’s the culture like at Primer?

We’re building a culture where people can come and do their best work and enjoy it. We want our people to be proud of the impact that they have at Primer, and of the work that they are doing. You will be working with a team of people who are mission-driven, smart, and reflective, and who are invested in building exceptional products and delivering success for our merchants (and we also know how to have fun along the way).
We work remotely. We believe that building a successful, profitable company goes beyond proximity. We invest in our relationships with each other through great remote working practices and thoughtfully designed face-to-face time together. Our heads-together time comes in the form of workstations, our annual company retreat, and co-working space access worldwide.
Finally, let’s go ahead and say it. The work that we do is challenging. Scaleups are a challenge, building category defining products is a challenge. You should be prepared for a challenge at Primer. But, there’s a big difference between a challenge and a struggle. The key difference is that the right challenge comes with the right support structures, an acceptance that not everything always goes to plan, a collaborative environment, and a great team around you. It’s never a challenge that you will face alone.
