About Griffin

Hi, we’re Griffin. We’re a fully regulated UK bank that powers the accounts and payments offerings of product-led fintechs and platforms like Uber, Yonder, Prosper, and Sidekick. By doing the heavy lifting behind the scenes, our customers can focus on what they do best - delivering amazing customer experiences.

We’ve grown rapidly since our launch in 2024, and today provide the banking backbone behind products in remittance, payroll, wealth, insurance, proptech, payments, neobanking and more.

We’re moving into card issuing, stablecoin infrastructure, and agentic finance next as we continue to support the next generation of product-led companies.

Our culture

We believe that smart, motivated, conscientious people thrive in high-trust, high-autonomy environments and have done our best to create such an environment at Griffin. People who thrive here don’t require much hand-holding, and go out of their way to figure out how to contribute in the most valuable way possible.

We've been remote-first since we were established in 2017 and we remain so today. Work here is asynchronous and fully flexible - because we want to be a part of your life in a way that helps you to get the most out of both your work and home life.

We understand that our culture and ways of working aren’t for everyone, and we’re very intentional about our hiring process as a result. We won't hire people who don’t seem like a strong fit for our core values, even if they're otherwise extremely qualified.

Our strong culture has helped us to remain a mission-driven company as we have scaled, and gives our people a clear, explicit operating framework and the space to focus on delivering real value for our customers.

The Team

Griffin's Chart team — what most companies call Finance — is our strategic engine room. We strike a careful balance between working closely with commercial and product on what's possible, and giving management, regulators and the Board a complete, accurate picture of the business. We’re objective and grounded in reality, while also looking to push the limits in terms of how a modern finance team looks and performs.

The team of seven sits across four sub-teams:

  • FP&A, which supports the business in budgeting, forecasting, MI and new product expansion

  • Prudential, responsible for our regulatory reporting and prudential processes including our ICAAP and ILAAP

  • Treasury operations, managing our cash, liquidity and funding operations

  • Financial Control, which oversees statutory accounting, tax, cost control and revenue/billing.

The Opportunity

Griffin is entering one of its most consequential chapters, a growth phase and an expanding product roadmap.

Current key projects include supporting our engineering teams on the technical design of Banksy, our in-house core banking system, and launching a new card issuing platform.

As CFO, you’ll be expected to lead the Chart function. You’ll report to the CEO and work closely with them on strategic planning and budgeting for the business as a whole. You’ll also hold one of the two Executive Director seats on the Board and provide context from the business to the Board.

This is a Senior Management role (SMF2) under the Senior Manager’s and Certification Regime (SMCR), meaning the role holder must comply with the FCA’s Fitness and Propriety Requirements.

What success looks like

In your first 6 months, you'll have defined the strategy for finance operations and taken full ownership of our regulatory submissions, keeping Griffin compliant and audit-ready. By 12 months, you'll have embedded yourself as a key partner to our Product and Engineering teams on Banksy (our in-house core banking system), and played a central role in getting our new card issuing platform to market with the right financial foundations in place.

While continuing to experience robust triple-digit % growth, we’re also orienting the business towards profitability. You’ll be responsible for leading from the front on financial discipline and making sure the business keeps costs under control while also working with the business to ensure it is adequately resourced to achieve its growth targets.

To do this you’ll own
  • Griffin's financial strategy and operating model, including full ownership of the Chart function and its evolution as we scale

  • Chairing the Executive ALCO and overseeing all financial modelling, including ICAAP, ILAAP, Recovery Plan, Exit Plan and LCP

  • All internal and external financial and regulatory reporting, and ongoing compliance with regulatory capital and liquidity requirements

  • The relationship with our regulators, liaising with the PRA and FCA as appropriate and representing Griffin with credibility and candour

  • Cross-functional collaboration with Product and Engineering on product build and launch, with a particular focus on pricing strategy and unit economics

  • Supporting the CEO on fundraising and broader company growth strategy, including direct engagement with existing and prospective investors

  • Driving high performance within the rest of the team and architecting a finance function for the AI era

Your background

To ensure this, we're looking for people who have:

  • Banking and/or Fintech Experience: You've held a senior finance leadership role in banking or fintech and have a solid grasp of the FCA/PRA regulatory environment.

  • FP&A: You have a strong background in FP&A, supporting the business in budgeting, forecasting and financial planning.

  • Growth-minded partner, not just a financial gatekeeper: You're a commercial leader excited to drive revenue growth. You've worked directly on pricing strategy, unit economics, and bottom-line ownership, not just taken them as given from business heads.

  • Performant, disciplined, hands-on: You roll up your sleeves, dig into the details, and move at pace to resolve problems at their root. You don't just direct from a distance and set and hold a high bar for performance in your team.

  • A good craftsman does blame his tools: You're obsessed with productivity and efficiency. You actively seek out AI and SaaS tools to help the Chart team work faster and smarter.

  • Objective: You're the anchor of reality in a room full of optimism. You’re honest about tradeoffs, focused on achievable targets, and never distracted by unlikely scenario planning.

  • Signal, not noise: You take complexity and make it simple. You tell accurate stories that drive clarity for investors, the Board, and internal teams, and you're comfortable introducing unconventional metrics where they're more useful.

  • Fresh perspective: You've built high-performing teams and see the function as a strategic partner — opening new business lines, spotting commercial opportunities, and driving product development.

  • Diplomat and consigliere: You instil confidence by speaking honestly and thoughtfully. You stay aligned with the CEO, challenge inconsistencies openly, and focus on closing conversations rather than opening new concerns.

  • Spidey-sense: You see around corners — and can always explain why a concern is real, not just that it exists.

  • A love of writing - we have a major amount of written documentation that you will be contributing to, and we place a high degree of importance on clarity and readability (you can find out more here about how we write )

Nice to have

  • Previous experience of working at a senior or executive level or previous SMF2 experience

  • Prior board experience as an executive director

  • Experience of liaising directly with regulatory bodies such as the FCA and PRA

  • Experience of being involved with fundraising and liaising with investors

What can we offer you?

We are an early stage startup and we're working hard to expand our benefits package. We're planning to add to this list in the future.

  • Remote-first flexibility: Work from anywhere in the UK

  • Work from abroad: Up to 20 days a year

  • Time off: 25 days’ holiday, bank holidays and a winter break (we shut down between Christmas and New Year)

  • Share options: Own a part of what we’re building together

  • Pension: Auto-enrolment into our Penfold scheme

  • Insurance: Private medical with Bupa (including family cover) and life insurance with AIG

  • Wellbeing: 1:1 coaching and therapy session available through Oliva

  • Family leave: Enhanced parental leave with up to 6 months on full pay after two years’ service

  • AI tools: Everyone has a Claude subscription on us and access to other premium tools

  • Your setup: We’ll support you in creating a comfortable and effective WFH environment.

As a bank, we’re committed to maintaining the highest standards of security. This means that the successful candidate will need to complete background screening, and our offer will be conditional upon satisfactory review of these checks. This would include verification of right to work, criminal record, credit history, social media and professional reference checks.

How do I apply?

Are we your next move? Apply via the link below, if there's a match our Talent team will reach out to schedule an initial conversation and talk you through what happens next.

We’re remote-first

We trust people to do great work wherever they are. We hire across the UK and most of our team works remotely full-time. We have a small London office in Moorgate for those who want it, and about a third of the company is close enough to use it occasionally, but there's no expectation to be there. What matters is the work, not where you do it.

Under representation

Our goal is for Griffin to proportionally represent the diversity of the working population in society. We’re working to ensure that Griffin is a supportive, empowering and inclusive environment for every member of our team — whatever your combination of race, ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation, physical ability, nationality, neurodiversity, and religious beliefs. If you’re part of a group that is under-represented in fintech, we’d love to hear from you.

Griffin Bank Ltd request that recruitment agencies do not speculatively submit CVs to any employee or associate of our company unless explicitly asked to do so by a member of our Talent team.Any CVs sent to any member of our team on a speculative basis will not be recognised and we will not accept liability for any fee or commission should we subsequently employ a candidate who applied to us directly or was introduced by an instructed agency that may also have been submitted speculatively by an uninstructed agency.

Top U.K. companies like Hoptin, Moneybox and Marshmallow have already made the city their base — yet fintech is just the beginning. From healthtech to renewable energy to cybersecurity and beyond, the city's startups are breaking new ground across a range of industries.
