The opportunity:

As part of the Catastrophe Management team, you will be supporting Markel International with pre-underwriting analytics, class and entity level reporting and ad-hoc analysis to support underwriting decisions. 

The role may be required to work over a number of lines of business but will be focused on supporting the Non-Natural Catastrophe team, notably on Cyber.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Use third party catastrophe models and in-house tools for pre-underwriting analysis
  • Lead production of quarterly divisional reports
  • Build and maintain a strong relationship with divisional underwriters
  • Provide ad hoc reports for underwriting portfolio analysis and reporting for senior executives
  • Present results and ideas confidently to senior stakeholders and underwriting teams
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues in other Markel offices
  • Liaise closely with outsourcing partners
  • Lead on ad-hoc projects with assistance from the Catastrophe Management and Associate Director
  • Lead internal and external reporting including to Lloyds and the PRA.

Our must-haves:

  • Proven catastrophe modelling or aggregation management experience in the London market
  • Excellent IT skills with good knowledge of SQL. Those with other coding experience are encouraged to apply. 
  • Proven experience with catastrophe management best practices
  • Proven experience of portfolio level aggregation techniques
  • Experience of building and maintaining successful relationships with internal and external contacts
  • The ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines
  • Completed a numerical degree with a classification of 2:1 or above, or equivalent
