Business Development Manager role as part of Vanguard’s high performing Adviser Sales team, with responsibility for Scotland and Northern Ireland.

We are seeking a Business Development Manager to join Vanguard’s high‑performing Adviser Sales team, with responsibility for Scotland and Northern Ireland. The role focuses on developing new relationships and deepening existing partnerships with financial advisers and intermediary firms, including nationals and network relationships, across the region, with a strong emphasis on building trusted relationships.

The role has a strong commercial focus on Advisor Solutions, including Vanguard’s Model Portfolio Service and multi‑asset funds, alongside direct responsibility for growing adoption of Vanguard’s component fund range. Working in close partnership with an internally based Business Development Executive, the Business Development Manager will lead strategic, face‑to‑face engagement, operate effectively within complex intermediary decision‑making environments, and act as a trusted consultant representing Vanguard within the region.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops new relationships, maintains, deepens and broadens existing relationships with Financial Adviser Firms and distributors in assigned territory through targeted prospecting activities.
  • Effectively manages territory by maintaining high quality business plan with clear segmentation and communications plans. Creates targeted messages for appropriate segments.
  • Achieves sales and sales activity goals within the spirit of Vanguard's Code of Ethics.
  • Raises awareness of Vanguard's investments products and related services and delivers key Vanguard messages through targeted prospecting activities including but not limited to; cold-calling, direct mail campaigns, face-to-face meetings, branch meetings, and attendance at national and industry conferences.
  • Thoroughly understands the philosophy and dynamics of the adviser marketplace (investment philosophy, client base, product preference, etc.). Acts as a trusted adviser/consultant in matching needs with Vanguard products and services. Educates advisers on the benefits of Vanguard and our product offerings.
  • Develops a high level of expertise related to the capital markets, the investment management industry, and marketplace developments. Utilises this expertise, along with product knowledge, to be a trusted adviser to client and prospective clients, and positions Vanguard products and services effectively.
  • Partners with select advisers/firms to participate in conferences, client seminars, and key producers to provide educational meetings and events.
  • Gathers and shares competitor and IFA intelligence with other divisions (e.g. Marketing and OPs) to improve the Vanguard proposition.
  • Leads/participates in other projects and performs duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Minimum CII Certificate of Financial Planning qualified (or FPC). Diploma in Financial Planning (Dip PFS) or Investment Management Certificate (IMC) desirable.
  • Minimum five years financial services industry with at least three years relevant experience.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated executive presence, poise, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and adapt quickly and resourcefully to changing situations while travelling for business.
  • Excellent relationship management skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of investments and competitive environment.
  • Preferred:
  • Knowledge of leading Account Management CRM systems.
  • Good working knowledge of PC and MS Office software.
  • Specific knowledge of Specialist Investment areas.
  • Specific Knowledge of Investment Platforms.
  • Specific Knowledge of HNW Distributor Groups.

  • European Designations: Certified, MIFID, T&Cs
  • Frequent Travel required as part of role.
  • Full Driving license essential
