We make health happen:

At Bupa, our purpose is to help people live longer, healthier, happier lives — and make a better world. As a Business Development Manager, you’ll play a key role in growing our presence within the Consumer and SME markets, building strong intermediary relationships and winning new business in a way that delivers great customer outcomes and sustainable growth.

You’ll work closely with intermediary partners, internal sales teams and product colleagues to bring Bupa’s healthcare propositions to life — spanning Private Medical Insurance, cash plans, dental, and clinics. With customer needs and fair value at the heart of everything you do, you’ll help strengthen Bupa’s position as a trusted healthcare partner in the intermediary market.

How you’ll help us make health happen:

  •  Build and manage a high‑quality pipeline of new business opportunities within both the Consumer and SMC intermediary markets.
  •  Develop strong, long‑term relationships with intermediary partners, increasing engagement, loyalty and share of wallet.
  • Clearly articulate Bupa’s value proposition, positioning our healthcare solutions confidently in a competitive market.
  • Drive year‑on‑year growth by delivering against new business sales.
  • Maintain strong market visibility through proactive field activity with brokers/intermediaries.
  • Work collaboratively with marketing, digital, product and proposition teams to improve customer journeys and sales effectiveness.
  • Ensure all distribution activity meets regulatory standards, operates within risk appetite and delivers fair customer outcomes.
  • Identify, manage and escalate conduct, financial crime, operational and data risks, embedding a strong risk culture in day‑to‑day activity.
  • Support Bupa’s healthcare leadership position in the intermediary market while maintaining robust compliance and governance.

Key Skills / Qualifications needed for this role:

Essential

  • 2–3 years’ field‑based sales experience (not solely telephony or office‑based), ideally within a regulated B2B or intermediary environment.
  • Experienced in health insurance, with exposure to both consumer and SME markets.
  • Proven ability to build, manage and grow broker relationships providing ongoing training and support along with Client Presentations.
  • Strong commercial sales capability, with experience managing pipelines, targets and performance.
  • Comfortable analysing and discussing sales performance, data and reports.
  • Full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel regularly.
  • Strong relationship‑building skills, working effectively with internal teams across sales, product and operations.

Desirable

  • Strong knowledge of Bupa products, competitor offerings and the wider health insurance market.
  • Experience cross‑selling additional products such as cash plans or dental.
  • IF7 qualification (or equivalent health insurance ‑related qualification).

What you’ll bring

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, confident influencing and negotiating with brokers and stakeholders.
  • Resilience - comfortable working in a fast‑paced, target‑driven environment.
  • Ability to hit the ground running, manage competing priorities and stay focused on results.
  • A proactive, commercially minded approach with strong integrity and customer focus.

Benefits

Our benefits are designed to make health happen for our people. Viva is our global wellbeing programme and includes all aspects of our health – from mental and physical, to financial, social and environmental wellbeing. We support flexible working and have a range of family friendly benefits.

  • 25 days holiday, increasing through length of service, with option to buy or sell
  • Bupa health insurance as a benefit in kind
  • Opportunity to earn commission/ bonus through our Sales Incentive Plan.
  • An enhanced pension plan and life insurance
  • Onsite gyms or local discounts where no onsite gym available
  • Various other benefits and online discounts
