The Business Development Manager (BDM) is responsible for identifying, engaging, and converting new business opportunities across Morningstar's flagship model portfolios, global fund range, and consulting services. The BDM plays a key role in driving the firm's growth strategy by building and maintaining strong relationships with financial advisers, wealth management firms, and institutional clients. This role combines sales acumen, client engagement, and market insight to expand Morningstar's footprint and ensure the continued growth of assets under management.
Responsibilities
New Business Development
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities across the financial adviser and institutional segments.
  • Build and maintain a robust pipeline of prospects, ensuring accurate tracking and reporting.
  • Drive adoption of Morningstar's flagship portfolios, global funds, and consulting services and look after a key panel of MPS and global fund clients ensuring AUM growth and retention.
  • Prepare and deliver compelling pitches and presentations that align Morningstar's capabilities with client needs.
  • Collaborate with Marketing to support campaigns, events, and lead-generation activities.

Client Relationship Management
  • Partner with Portfolio Specialists and Investment Specialists to ensure seamless onboarding and handover of new consulting clients.
  • Maintain ongoing engagement with existing clients to identify cross-sell opportunities and support retention.
  • Act as a trusted adviser to clients by providing market insights, business development ideas, and best-practice guidance.
  • Ensure a consistent and high-quality client experience in every interaction.

Collaboration & Team Support
  • Work closely with the Portfolio Specialist and Consulting team to ensure shared accountability for client retention and growth.
  • Coordinate with the Operations and Product teams to ensure new client implementations are efficient and well supported.
  • Partner with the Marketing team to create tailored communication materials for prospects and existing clients.
  • Contribute to business reviews, market intelligence sharing, and feedback loops to continuously refine sales strategy.

Performance & Reporting
  • Meet or exceed quarterly and annual sales targets across all business lines.
  • Maintain accurate CRM data on prospects, leads, and opportunities.
  • Provide regular feedback on market trends, competitive insights, and client sentiment.
  • Contribute to the strategic planning process by identifying key growth areas and client needs.

Skills & Experience
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in financial services, ideally within a discretionary fund manager, asset manager, or investment consulting environment.
  • Proven track record in sales or business development with measurable success in asset growth.
  • Strong understanding of investments, financial advice models, and DFM propositions.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship management skills.
  • Relevant degree in Finance, Business, or Marketing; CFA or CFP qualification advantageous.
  • Results-driven and commercially minded.
  • Confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Highly organised with attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Self-starter with a collaborative approach and team-first mindset.
  • Passionate about supporting advisers and growing Morningstar's market presence.
