Business Development Director – Insurance

About Us

Aviva Investors is the global asset management business of Aviva plc. We deliver investment management solutions, services, and client-driven performance to clients worldwide - looking after £253 billion in assets under management. With over 1,000 people in 9 countries, we’re a brilliantly connected, collaborative team focused on bringing the best of our diverse expertise to every investment. Our long track record in sustainable investing shows we’re committed to doing the right thing for our clients and communities.

It takes all of us at Aviva Investors to contribute to creating an exceptional client experience, reflecting our innovation and investment expertise. With the capital, scale and influence to make a real difference, we take that responsibility seriously.  You’ll find an inclusive, supportive environment where your contribution matters, high performance is rewarded, and you’re in control of your development.

A bit about the role:

We are now recruiting for a Business Development Director to join our Insurance Distribution team. This client-facing role is ideal for someone who thrives on building and deepening relationships, driving new business opportunities, and delivering exceptional client service. Reporting directly to the Global Head of Insurance and supported by a dedicated client relationship management team within our wider Distribution network across the UK & Ireland, Europe, North America, and Asia Pacific, you’ll play a key role in managing existing clients, identifying growth opportunities, and leading prospect pitches and marketing initiatives. You’ll collaborate closely with colleagues across Distribution and investment teams to support business growth, contribute to sales and business planning, and represent Aviva Investors at industry events. Your insights will help shape our products and services, ensuring we remain responsive to client needs and market developments.

Investment expertise means nothing if clients don’t experience it. Our business development and client experience teams build trusted relationships across regions, while our marketing, investment, and communications teams showcase what sets us apart – powering our growth.

Skills and experience we’re looking for:

  • Investment Management Certificate (IMC) qualification required (both Units 1 and 2).
  • Ideally both Private and Public markets distribution experience.
  • A proven track record in sales, entrepreneurial mindset and drive to deliver commercial results.
  • Deep understanding of key investor issues including detailed understanding of the investment and regulatory challenges facing UK institutional investors and insurer investors' opportunities.
  • Ability to take responsibility for maintaining a high-performance culture and ensuring operations and investment activities are conducted and controlled in an appropriate manner.

What you’ll get:

Our purpose - with you today, for a better tomorrow – is a promise we make to our colleagues too. And one of the ways we live up to that promise is by investing in you. We have so much to offer when it comes to being an Aviva colleague:

  • Competitive Salary (depending on skills, experience, and qualifications).
  • Discretionary bonus opportunity - depending on individual performance and Aviva Investors’!
  • Generous pension scheme - Aviva will contribute up to 14%, depending on what you put in.
  • 29 days holiday plus bank holidays, and you can choose to buy or sell up to 5 days!
  • Aviva-funded Private Medical Benefit to help you get expert support when you need it.
  • Make your money go further with up to 40% discount on Aviva products, and other retailer discounts.
  • Up to £1,200 of free Aviva shares per year through our Matching Share Plan and share in the success of Aviva with our Save As You Earn scheme.
  • Brilliantly supportive policies including parental and carer’s leave.
  • Flexible benefits to suit you, including sustainability options such as cycle to work.
  • Make a difference, be part of our Aviva Communities and use your 3 paid volunteering days to help others.

Aviva is for everyone:

We’re inclusive and welcome everyone – we want applications from all backgrounds and experiences. Excited but not sure you tick every box? Even if you don’t, we would still encourage you to apply. We also consider all forms of flexible working, including part time and job shares.

Most of our people are smart working – spending at least 50% of their time in our offices every week - combining the benefits of flexibility, with time together with colleagues.
