The Role 

Your daily to-dos might look like this:

  • Requirements Gathering and Analysis:
    • Engage with stakeholders across departments (e.g., eCommerce, retail operations, finance, HR) to understand business needs and challenges.
    • Document and prioritize functional and non-functional requirements, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
    • Conduct detailed analysis of existing processes, systems, and workflows to identify opportunities for optimization and innovation.
  • Solution Design and Delivery:
    • Collaborate with IT teams, vendors, and third-party providers to design solutions that address business needs while ensuring feasibility and scalability.
    • Translate business requirements into detailed specifications for development teams, including user stories, wireframes, and process maps.
    • Support the evaluation and selection of technologies and systems.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Communication:
    • Act as the primary point of contact between business teams and technical teams, ensuring clear communication of requirements and project updates.
    • Facilitate workshops, meetings, and interviews to capture input and validate solutions.
    • Provide training and documentation for end-users to ensure smooth adoption of new systems and processes.
  • Testing and Quality Assurance:
    • Develop test plans and coordinate user acceptance testing (UAT) to ensure solutions meet business expectations.
    • Identify, log, and manage defects or issues to resolution.
  • Project Support and Change Management:
    • Work closely with project managers to deliver initiatives on time and within budget.
    • Assist in creating change management strategies and communication plans to ensure successful rollout of new systems and processes.
Requirements

These skills will help you go far in this role:

  •  Proven experience as a Business Analyst in a multi-channel retail environment or similar sector.
  • Strong understanding of retail systems, including eCommerce platforms, point-of-sale (POS) systems, and ERP/CRM systems
  • Familiarity with end-to-end project lifecycles and Agile methodologies.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to understand complex business processes.
  • Proficiency in requirements gathering techniques and tools (e.g., interviews, workshops, wireframing).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Knowledge of specific technologies such as CommerceTools and NetSuite.
  • Understanding of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP) and their role in supporting retail operations.
  • Basic understanding of retail KPIs and metrics (e.g., sales per square foot, conversion rates).
  • Professional certifications (e.g., CBAP, BCS Diploma in Business Analysis) are an advantage.
  • Adaptability to work across multiple domains (eCommerce, retail systems, internal enabling systems).
  • Proactive and self-motivated, with a focus on delivering business value.
  • Strong organisational skills to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to build strong relationships and act as a trusted advisor to stakeholders.
