Business Lead – FAIR²

Frontiers FAIR² is a pioneering service designed to transform research data into a powerful driver of discovery. Building on the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable), FAIR² goes further by making data AI-ready, responsibly governed, and richly contextualized. This service empowers researchers to share datasets that are citable, reusable, and impactful- accelerating breakthroughs in global health, sustainability, and life sciences.

As Business Lead – FAIR², you will play a key role in shaping this vision.

You’ll lead strategic, cross-functional projects to drive growth and enhance how we manage and publish data, ensuring that FAIR² delivers measurable value across people, processes, and technology. This role offers the opportunity to drive innovation at scale, influencing how science evolves in the age of AI.

Key Responsibilities
  • Commissioning and Growth: Drive commissioning strategies and initiatives that expand FAIR²’s reach and impact.
  • Lead Strategic Initiatives: From idea generation to scaled implementation, ensuring objectives, milestones, and success metrics are achieved.
  • Define success metrics and report on project outcomes, business impact, and improvements in customer experience.
  • Drive collaboration with Publishing Teams, Product Management, Software Engineering, UX, and additional functions to deliver impactful, measurable outcomes.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships at all levels, gathering feedback, securing buy-in, and ensuring strong alignment.
  • Lead problem-solving initiatives, developing innovative, data-informed solutions that address complex challenges.
  • Support change management, evaluating business readiness, creating clear narratives for change, and ensuring smooth adoption of new tools and practices.
  • Document best practices and SOPs, supporting communication, training, and high-quality adoption of new services and processes.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to Excellence & Innovation Specialists (where applicable), contributing to a high-performing, collaborative team environment.
About You
  • Experience in academic publishing is a must, innovation, or a tech-enabled business - highly desired
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think creatively and approach challenges from new angles to design effective solutions.
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to balance strategic priorities with operational realities.
  • A creative, innovative mindset, always seeking smarter ways of working.
  • Ability to work independently and manage ambiguity while driving progress.
  • Strong collaboration and stakeholder management skills, able to build alignment and influence at all levels.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and change-management capabilities, with experience engaging senior stakeholders.
  • A data-driven, pragmatic approach to evaluation and decision-making.
