Role Overview: 

We are looking for a highly capable and motivated Broadcast Engineer to support the delivery, maintenance and evolution of Formula 1’s worldclass broadcast systems. Working within the Media Engineering team, you will play a key role in ensuring our production systems are correctly commissioned, fully maintained and operating reliably throughout the season. both at the Media & Technology Centre and at Grand Prix events. 

Reporting to the Engineering Manager – Broadcast Systems, this is a handson technical role working at the forefront of live sports broadcasting, contributing to F1’s global coverage and supporting the continued innovation of our engineering infrastructure. 

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities: 

Broadcast Engineering Operations 

  • Install, commission, maintain and operate Formula 1’s broadcast equipment at the Media & Technology Centre and at global race events. 

  • Provide engineering support during live F1 events, working from the Remote Technical Centre or Event Technical Centre. 

  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues quickly to maintain uninterrupted broadcast operations. 

 

Systems Development & Technical Projects 

  • Contribute to the design, upgrade and evolution of F1’s broadcast engineering and production infrastructure. 

  • Collaborate across departments to ensure systems meet current and future broadcasting requirements. 

  • Support the implementation of new technologies, workflows and engineering solutions. 

 

Innovation & Future Technology 

  • Maintain a keen interest in emerging broadcast technologies and assist colleagues with design, testing and deployment of new systems. 

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and longterm technical projects. 

 

Collaboration & CrossTeam Support 

  • Work closely with engineers, operators, production and technical teams to ensure seamless broadcast delivery. 

  • Support running orders, workflows and system checks ahead of live sessions and race weekends. 

 

What Are We Looking For? 

Knowledge & Skills 

Prior to the role it is essential that you demonstrate: 

  • Strong computer literacy and technical confidence. 

  • Good understanding of HD, 3G, UHD, HDR and IP broadcast standards. 

  • Knowledge of traditional and emerging broadcast technologies, systems engineering and infrastructure. 

  • Excellent attention to detail and strong communication skills. 

 

Desirable knowledge & skills: 

  • Familiarity with AutoCAD for systems documentation. 

  • Experience with EVS Cerebrum, camera systems or other specialist broadcast tools. 

 

Experience 

Prior to the role it would be essential that you have: 

  • Experience working within a live broadcast engineering team. 

  • Experience configuring and programming vision mixers (ideally Grass Valley KFrame). 

 

Some desirable experience you may bring: 

  • Live sports outside broadcast experience. 

  • Knowledge of replay systems, cameras, routing or control systems. 

  • Broader technical exposure across video, audio, IP or RF workflows. 

 

Qualifications 

  • BSc or equivalent qualification in Broadcast Engineering, TV Operations or a related engineering discipline (preferred). 

  • Current UK driving licence is required for this role.
