We are seeking a highly capable Service & Small Works BMS Engineer to play a key role in the continued growth of our business. This is not a routine maintenance role — it is an opportunity to take ownership of technically interesting systems, build trusted client relationships, working on projects and directly influence the delivery of service and project work across a growing regional portfolio.

The role combines advanced service engineering with responsibility for identifying, pricing, and delivering improvement works. You will operate with a high degree of autonomy, acting as the technical face of the business on site while being fully supported by an experienced operations team.

In addition to maintaining and optimising existing systems, you will own small works opportunities from concept through to completion — developing recommendations, preparing quotations, and delivering solutions that improve system performance, reliability, and energy efficiency. This ownership provides valuable exposure to commercial, sales, and project management disciplines and offers a clear pathway into larger project delivery roles.

This position covers the Midlands region with travel across Sheffield, Leeds, Nottingham, Leicester and the wider Midlands as required. Participation in a 24/7 on-call rota is necessary to support critical environments.

We are a growing organisation with ambitious plans, and this role is ideal for an engineer who wants to progress, broaden their skills, and be recognised for their contribution rather than remain in a purely reactive service position.

The role reports to the Regional Operations Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality planned preventative maintenance to ensure systems operate reliably and efficiently while identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Respond to complex reactive callouts, applying advanced diagnostic skills to resolve issues quickly and effectively.
  • Carry out in-depth fault finding across controllers, field devices, networks, and software layers.
  • Implement software modifications, upgrades, and optimisation strategies to enhance system performance and energy efficiency.
  • Commission new installations and system upgrades, ensuring seamless integration with existing infrastructure.
  • Proactively identify system weaknesses, inefficiencies, and risks, developing practical, value-driven recommendations.
  • Prepare and present quotations for remedial works and upgrades, taking full ownership from proposal through to successful delivery.
  • Plan and deliver small works projects from start to finish, maintaining high standards of safety, quality, documentation, and client communication.
  • Undertake panel modifications, component upgrades, and control system improvements as required.
  • Implement system integrations using open protocols such as Modbus and BACnet.
  • Act as a trusted technical advisor to clients, building long-term relationships through professionalism and technical expertise.
  • Work independently across multiple sites while maintaining strong communication with the regional team.
  • Participate in the out-of-hours support rota to provide critical system coverage.
  • Maintain clear, accurate, and up-to-date service documentation.

Technical Requirements

  • Strong, proven experience working with Building Management Systems (BMS), specifically:
    • Trend Control Systems
    • Tridium / Niagara Framework
  • Experience with Distech or other major BMS platforms is advantageous but not essential. Training will be provided where appropriate.
  • Excellent understanding of HVAC plant, building services systems, and control strategies.
  • Demonstrable experience in commissioning, diagnostics, fault finding, and system integration.
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics, panel drawings, and control documentation.

Requirements

Performance Expectations

  • Deliver technically robust solutions that minimise downtime and maximise system performance.
  • Maintain high levels of customer satisfaction and trust.
  • Effectively manage workload and priorities across service and project activities.
  • Identify and convert improvement opportunities into successfully delivered projects.
  • Operate safely, professionally, and in accordance with company standards at all times.
  • Contribute to the growth of the regional business through technical excellence and proactive client engagement.

Personal Attributes

  • Self-driven, reliable, and comfortable working independently.
  • Commercially aware and confident discussing technical solutions with clients.
  • Solution-focused with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Professional, approachable, and able to build credibility with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Motivated by continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Enthusiastic about contributing to a growing business where individual impact is recognised and valued.

Benefits

Location & Benefits

  • Based out of our Northampton office, with travel across the Midlands region.
  • Company car or car allowance.
  • Clear career progression pathway.
  • Opportunities for professional growth and development.

Additional Benefits

  • Salary sacrifice pension scheme.
  • Medicare Health Cash Plan.
  • Bravo Benefits and Employee Assistance Programme (EAP).
  • Access to an Electric Vehicle (EV) Salary Sacrifice Scheme.
  • Access to company private health insurance.
