Job Purpose

As a Bibliographic Data Analyst, within the Bibliographic Data Team, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining a close and positive working relationship with publishers, distributors, and other data providers, through appropriate liaison at all levels, to ensure NielsenIQ BookData receives timely information and meets all appropriate service level requirements. The Bibliographic Data Team is responsible for accuracy, and providing up to date information, in the following data areas: Titles, contributors, price and availability of titles, distribution information, updating organisation information, images, and ensuring publisher queries are handled in a timely manner.

Role Responsibilities

This role requires the successful individual to show competence across a range of skills and tasks, which will encompass the following:

 

  • To take responsibility for developing and maintaining a close and positive working relationship with publishers, distributors, and other data providers, through appropriate liaison at all levels, to ensure NielsenIQ BookData receives timely information and meets all appropriate service level requirements 
  • To test the data content for new and upgrading ONIX, and Non-Standard electronic feeds, from data suppliers to the appropriate level and within the appropriate timescales 
  • To attend meetings and carry out UATs, on behalf of the Bibliographic Data Team, for Book Demand Management, within the Agile framework
  • To manage and maintain the NielsenIQ BookData Authority Files, to ensure industry standards are always met
  • To resolve or reassign appropriately, queries from customers in a timely and efficient manner 
  • To liaise with and answer queries from publishers, other data suppliers and teams/colleagues within other areas of the business (e.g. the Metadata Team, Book Research) promptly and professionally
  • To accurately and promptly source and add selected new bibliographic records to the database using the book industry ONIX standard, ensuring compliance with all departmental standards, and addressing any issues that arise during data capture
  • To maintain, upgrade and improve existing bibliographic records, to enrich the quality of our data, on the database accurately and in a timely manner, meeting all departmental standards as appropriate 
  • To prioritize work to ensure all turnaround times are met, service level agreements are fulfilled, and KPIs are reached
  • Assist in any appropriate bibliographic projects required by a publisher and/or the Bibliographic Data Manager and Senior Analysts
  • Assist in any appropriate bibliographic projects required by the Business
  • To attend and contribute to regular team meetings 
  • To attend publisher meetings, open days, book fairs where appropriate, to support other areas of the business  
  • To provide cover and support for all team tasks
  • To carry out other duties as may be required from time to time by the Bibliographic Data Manager

Qualifications

  • Highly proficient general PC skills  
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal, with the ability to communicate with clarity, consistency, and confidence 
  • Excellent customer service skills 
  • Ability to work well as part of a team and build effective relationships with others
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail required, including strong numeracy skills
  • Aptitude and experience of using Microsoft Office, including MS Teams, MS Excel, and MS Word. Experience using COGNOS, WinSCP and Visual Studio would also be beneficial, but not essential 
  • In-depth understanding of the publishing industry and book trade is desirable 
  • Solid proficiency in data analysis and testing 
  • Solid product knowledge
