Who we are
Apollo is a specialised, independent (re)insurer operating at Lloyd’s, established in 2009 with a clear ambition: to deliver high-quality underwriting, service and partnerships in a market that values expertise and trust.
The name Apollo reflects our origins. Inspired by founding investor Neil Armstrong — the first person to walk on the moon — the business was built with the same pioneering mindset. Alongside Jim Hays, Neil saw an opportunity to create a different kind of Lloyd’s platform: focused, agile and built around people.
Since launch, Apollo has evolved into a diversified insurance group. Today, our offering spans traditional and specialty lines through Apollo 1969, innovative sharing-economy solutions via ibott 1971, and managing agency services for Platform Partner Syndicates at Lloyd’s.
With a global team of more than 300 professionals, we continue to grow with purpose, combining underwriting excellence, innovation and collaboration to support our mission of enabling a more resilient and sustainable world.
“We attract and retain diverse talent by creating an inclusive environment where people are empowered to grow, succeed and do their best work. By fostering excellence and forward-thinking, we aim to enable a resilient and sustainable world.” David Ibeson, Group CEO

Your Role

Apollo is modernising its technology landscape with cloud-based applications, integrations, and automation that support underwriting, operations, and business growth. As a Back-End Integration Engineer within our Digital Solutions team, you will design, build, and maintain the APIs, services, and integration patterns that connect systems across the organisation.

You will play a key part in creating secure, scalable, and reliable integrations that enhance how data and applications interact. Working closely with colleagues across business and technology teams, you will help shape solutions, streamline processes, and improve end-to-end system performance.

What You Will Do

  • Design and implement integrations across internal systems, cloud services, and vendor platforms.
  • Build and maintain APIs, messaging components, orchestration workflows, and data access layers.
  • Apply recognised integration patterns, security standards, and governance principles.
  • Contribute to design discussions, architectural patterns, and engineering best practice.
  • Develop high-quality, secure, maintainable code using approved languages and tools.
  • Support CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and code review activities.
  • Work within agile delivery cycles to estimate, plan, build, test, and deliver integration work.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and provide early-life support for new integrations.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners, Analysts, Application Engineers, Data Engineers, and Architects to translate requirements into effective solutions.
  • Monitor integration performance and identify opportunities to simplify architecture or enhance automation and observability.
  • Support governance, security, and compliance requirements across integration components.

What We Are Looking For

  • Hands-on experience designing and building APIs, services, and system integrations.
  • Strong understanding of integration patterns including REST, messaging, event-driven approaches, and orchestration.
  • Experience with cloud integration services such as Azure API Management, Service Bus, Event Grid, and Functions.
  • Proficiency in C# or Python, with a focus on secure coding practices.
  • Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, and modern engineering practice.
  • Strong problem-solving capability and the ability to collaborate across technical and business teams.
  • Understanding of data flows, data modelling, and interoperability concepts.
  • Experience integrating legacy systems or vendor platforms.
  • Knowledge of the Lloyd’s insurance market is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with agile delivery and DevOps approaches.

What you’ll get in return
We offer a competitive and thoughtfully designed reward package that reflects the value of our people. This includes a fair and attractive salary, discretionary bonus, and a comprehensive benefits package - including 31 days’ annual leave, a non-contributory pension and private medical insurance.
Our commitment to inclusion
At Apollo, people are at the heart of everything we do. We are a diverse, growing team of empowered experts who bring collaboration, innovation and data-driven thinking to every relationship and every risk.
We believe diversity and inclusion go far beyond targets. They are essential to understanding the global communities we serve and to making better decisions. That’s why we are committed to developing diverse talent at every level and creating an environment where different perspectives are genuinely valued, supported and celebrated.
We also run a programme of events, training and initiatives designed to recognise both the challenges and opportunities that come with building an inclusive workplace.
Hybrid & flexible working
Flexible and hybrid working are fully embraced at Apollo. We do not believe in presenteeism. Instead, we trust our people to work in ways that allow them to perform at their best, balancing professional responsibilities with personal commitments.
Supporting your application
Apollo is committed to providing an inclusive and supportive recruitment experience. Our process typically includes a combination of virtual (Microsoft Teams) and in-person interviews.
