An Azure Architect is responsible for designing and implementing Azure cloud-based solutions, ensuring scalability, security, and cost-efficiency. Below is a typical job description (JD) for an Azure Architect:

Job Summary:

As an Azure Cloud Architect, you will lead the design, deployment, and management of scalable, secure, and efficient cloud architectures on Microsoft Azure. The role requires in-depth expertise in cloud computing, solution architecture, and hands-on experience with Azure services. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide technical guidance and ensure that solutions align with business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

Cloud Architecture Design:

  • Design and implement secure, scalable, and high-performance Azure-based solutions, including IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS.
  • Azure Infrastructure:
  • Architect and manage Azure infrastructure, including Virtual Machines, Virtual Networks, Storage, Load Balancers, etc.
  • Migration:
  • Plan and execute migration of on-premises infrastructure to the Azure cloud.
  • Automation:
  • Develop automated processes using ARM templates, Terraform, PowerShell, or Azure DevOps to manage cloud resources.
  • Security:
  • Ensure the implementation of security best practices, including Identity and Access Management (IAM), encryption, and threat protection.
  • Cost Optimization:
  • Analyze current cloud expenditures and recommend cost optimization strategies.
  • Disaster Recovery and Backup:
  • Design and implement disaster recovery (DR) strategies and backup solutions.
  • Collaboration:
  • Work closely with development, operations, and security teams to deliver end-to-end cloud solutions.
  • Continuous Improvement:
  • Stay up to date with the latest Azure offerings, cloud trends, and best practices. Suggest and implement improvements in existing architecture.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Azure services such as Azure AD, Azure Virtual Machines, Azure Functions, AKS, and Azure SQL.
  • Architecture Frameworks:
  • Experience with architecture frameworks such as TOGAF or Zachman.
  • Automation & DevOps:
  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools like ARM Templates, Terraform, and scripting with PowerShell, Bash.
  • Networking:
  • Strong knowledge of networking fundamentals, VPNs, DNS, Load Balancing, and Virtual Networks in Azure.
