Job Description

At Syntegon, we develop intelligent and sustainable packaging solutions that make a real impact worldwide. As an Automation Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, programming, and commissioning advanced control systems for our high-tech packaging machines—both in-house and at customer sites around the globe.

In this role, you will be involved throughout the full lifecycle of our machines. From software development to commissioning, you ensure that our solutions meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and configure operator interfaces and display terminals for production data.

  • Design control systems in compliance with applicable electrical and safety standards.

  • Perform risk analyses and assess safety-related functions.

  • Create electrical bills of materials to support procurement activities.

Qualifications

You are an experienced automation professional who enjoys working in a technical, project-driven environment. You are able to manage your tasks independently while contributing effectively to the wider project team. You have proven experience working with control systems and delivering projects on time and within budget.

We value both formal qualifications and practical experience. A solid technical foundation is essential for success in this role. You bring strong technical knowledge combined with a hands-on mindset, enabling you to troubleshoot, optimise, and continuously improve our systems.

Knowledge and skills

  • Experience with PLC programming using Ladder Logic, FBD, or Structured Text (Rockwell, Beckhoff).

  • HNC or equivalent qualification (vocational education is an advantage).

  • Strong understanding of power and control circuits.

  • Ability to produce 2D electrical wiring diagrams using tools such as AutoCAD or EPLAN.

  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.

  • Practical, hands-on engineering experience.

Key qualities

  • A true team player with a structured and efficient way of working.

  • Flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced, international environment.

  • Willing to travel occasionally, both domestically and internationally (a valid passport and driving licence are required).

Additional Information

You’ll join an international team working on leading packaging technology, with strong investment in your technical development and career growth. We provide competitive pay, travel allowances and comprehensive training to keep your skills at the cutting edge.
