Job Title: Audit Manager – Conduct and Operational Risk
Working Pattern: Flexible and open to both Full time (36.25 hours per week) or Part-time working pattern, to be agreed
Salary: FTE up to £75,000 and up to 20% bonus and benefits
Location: Flexible – Embrace hybrid work from any of our vibrant UK offices in Blackpool, London or Cardiff. Some travel between offices will be required on occasions.

We’re at the start of an exciting journey to evolve our Internal Audit strategy with the aim of building an amazing in-house Tandem audit team delivering assurance that is built on trusted business partnerships.

The Audit Manager will have the opportunity to work alongside the Audit Leadership team to shape the strategic direction of the Internal Audit function, supporting the Head of Internal Audit to evolve the function’s approach and ways of working reflective of the Bank’s evolving needs.

The role holder will be responsible for delivering the Conduct and Operational Risk elements of the audit plan, reporting to the Senior Manager.  As such, you will play a key role in defining and delivering effective and high-quality audits and advisory work spanning the broad spectrum of operational and conduct risk areas. You will work extensively with stakeholders in key business divisions to help shape the delivery of our audits and develop strong working relationships with colleagues across the business to deliver independent risk-based and objective assurance, advice, insight and foresight to Senior Management and the Board Audit Committee, helping the Bank to responsibly achieve its strategic objectives.

As an Audit Manager (Conduct and Operational Risk) at Tandem your focus will be on:

  • Planning and quality delivery of the Conduct and Operational Risk elements of the audit plan, within agreed timescales and in line with Internal Audit methodology
  • Preparing robust and succinct audit reports, applying your professional judgement on the adequacy of control environment, root causes and risk management culture
  • Influence positive change and discussion in relation to the Bank’s governance and control framework
  • Providing support, steer, and challenge to the business on outcomes and actions arising from audit activities
  • Supporting the Audit Senior Manager in maintaining and evolving the Audit risk universe
  • Increasing the function’s visibility and building credibility with the business by developing a strong partnership model across the Bank, developing relationships with management in key business functions
  • Supporting the Head of Internal Audit in delivering against the strategic objectives of the audit function

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

  • Demonstrable experience of planning, executing and reporting on internal audits with strong project management skills to deliver high quality audit work
  • Subject matter specialism in conduct and operational risk areas
  • Excellent understanding and ability to make appropriate assessments of risk management and control frameworks, demonstrating relevant professional judgment
  • Strong understanding of the regulatory environment within which Tandem Bank operates
  • Strong relationship management and influencing skills to maximise the influence of our work, even when delivering difficult messages to senior stakeholders
  • Ability to confidently and clearly communicate findings and escalate issues
  • Excellent report writing ability
  • A collaborative approach to stakeholder management
  • A positive, can-do attitude and are passionate about elevating the impact of internal audit and finding ways to continually add value
  • A curiosity and tenacity to learn, who is confident approaching areas outside your core expertise in a thorough manner, getting to the heart of a matter quickly

It would be great, but not essential if you have:

  • Experience of working in financial services, and in particular within a digital or challenger bank
  • Experience in the use of data analytics or different ways of working, such as Agile to enhance quality and timeliness of audit input
  • Experience of designing, developing and implementing initiatives to improve audit quality or impact
