Company Description

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Audience Engagement Editor to join Reach's editorial team. This role is based in the UK and will require close collaboration with our US-based editorial and social media teams to engage with a U.S. audience. You will be at the forefront of driving audience engagement through our newsletters and social media channels, playing a key part in shaping how we connect with and grow our readership.

Reach Plc is the UK’s largest commercial news publisher. We’re home to more than 130 trusted brands, from national titles like the Mirror, Express, Daily Record and Daily Star, to local brands like MyLondon, BelfastLive and the Manchester Evening News.

Since the start of 2023, we have been building out our US operation, headquartered at 200 Liberty St, New York. We’ve launched four standalone brands in the Mirror US, Express US, the Irish Star and Liverpool.com covering news, sport, entertainment, politics and lifestyle - all targeted at US audiences.

Role Location

This is a Monday - Friday hybrid position with a requirement to work 2-3 days a week in our Canary Wharf office in London or our Birmingham hub. We are therefore open to candidates based in or commutable to London or Birmingham.

Job Description

In this pivotal role, you'll collaborate closely with editorial and social teams to broaden our reach and engage a more diverse audience. Your main responsibilities will include curating, writing, and editing high-quality content for our newsletters, ensuring engaging communication with our readers.

You'll manage the editorial calendar, working with the team to plan content that aligns with current trends and audience interests. Additionally, you'll lead and execute social media strategies across platforms such as X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, Instagram, Threads, Bluesky, and LinkedIn.

Engage actively on social media by monitoring channels, responding to comments, and building relationships with followers. You'll also explore emerging platforms like Instagram, Bluesky, and Reddit to connect with new audiences.

Test and optimize a variety of content formats—polls, videos, infographics, etc.—to maximize audience engagement. Utilize audience data from newsletters and social media to analyse performance and refine strategies for optimal engagement.

Collaborate with U.S. based editorial teams to amplify stories through newsletters and social media, ensuring content resonates with the U.S. audience. This role is ideal for someone passionate about audience engagement and eager to make an impact. We look forward to your application!

Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate with newsroom experience, ideally in an audience-focused role involving headline writing and original social media copy. You should have a deep understanding of Reach’s brands and editorial voice, combined with strong knowledge of the U.S. news media landscape and social platforms.

A solid journalism background is essential, along with strong writing skills, excellent news judgment, and proficiency in social media management tools and email marketing platforms. You should be adept at using audience analytics to optimize engagement based on data insights, while also being a creative thinker passionate about building and connecting with online communities.

We value candidates who can bring fresh ideas and insights, with a proven ability to engage and grow audiences through inclusive content. This role is crucial in helping us diversify our audience both culturally and geographically, as we aim to expand our reach among underserved communities in the U.S. and build a readership that truly reflects America's diversity.

You should excel in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and possess strong interpersonal skills to work effectively in both remote and in-person teams, fostering collaboration across departments. The ability to work across time zones is important, as this position involves collaborating with U.S.-based teams.
