Birmingham

Cushman & Wakefield is seeking an experienced and commercially minded Associate – Rating to join our highly regarded National Rating team in Birmingham. This role is ideal for an established surveyor with a strong background in business rates who is ready to take on greater responsibility for client delivery, team leadership, and business development within a market-leading consultancy. You will play a key role in advising major clients on complex rating matters across a diverse property portfolio, while supporting the continued growth and performance of the team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the development and implementation of strategies to minimise clients’ business rates liabilities across complex portfolios

  • Take primary responsibility for the management of key client accounts, ensuring high-quality service delivery and long-term client relationships

  • Oversee empty property rates mitigation strategies and the identification and application of relevant reliefs

  • Undertake and review property inspections and measurements for valuation purposes, ensuring technical accuracy and compliance

  • Analyse valuation evidence and assessments to determine appeal potential and appropriate strategy

  • Prepare, review, and submit high-quality submissions through the Check, Challenge, Appeal (CCA) process

  • Provide clear, commercially focused advice to clients and stakeholders, including written reports and presentations

  • Contribute to team financial performance, fee forecasting, and the identification of new business opportunities

  • Support, mentor, and oversee junior surveyors, contributing to their technical and professional development

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across service lines to deliver integrated client solutions

Skills & Experience:
  • Chartered Surveyor (MRICS) with demonstrable experience in rating

  • Strong track record of delivering business rates advice and managing client portfolios independently

  • Experience working with rating software such as Riverlake, Analyse, RatesData, and Calcurate

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and report-writing skills, with confidence dealing directly with clients

  • Commercially astute with a proactive approach to business development and fee generation

  • Up-to-date knowledge of rating legislation, procedures, and the CCA appeals process

  • Experience mentoring or managing junior team members is desirable
