Associate Scientific Editor

Are you super organized, skilled at planning?

Would you like to use your PhD and experience as an author to support researchers in scholarly publication?

About our Team

Our STMJ (Science, Technology, and Medical Journals) team publishes high-quality, peer-reviewed research that drives progress across scientific and medical disciplines. We collaborate closely with authors, editors, reviewers, and societies to ensure the integrity and impact of the published work. Through innovation in editorial workflows and publishing technology, we help global research communities discover, evaluate, and disseminate knowledge that advances science and improves lives.

About the Role

The role of Associate Scientific Editor sits within the Author Heroes team. Members of our team use scientific expertise and problem-solving skills to improve the author experience and help authors find a suitable home for their paper.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluating content as a partner to external editors;
  • Improving the editorial process for editors and reviewers iteratively;
  • Engaging closely with authors to help them improve their manuscripts;
  • Managing the editorial process for papers, from submission through peer review to the final decision;
  • Helping authors increase their odds of success in being published in another journal if rejected from their first choice;
  • Recruit and manage external editors, holding them to the same standard.

Content evaluation is based on questions such as: Is the article submitted within the aims and scope of the journal(s)? Does the science make sense? Do the results support the main conclusions? Have the authors chosen an appropriate method? Is the manuscript of sufficient quality? Is this the right journal for this work, or could the authors improve their manuscript to increase their odds of success at another journal?

Our Editors offer authors guidance and ensure a smooth overall experience for authors who submit to our journals.

Requirements

  • PhD in Social Sciences;
  • We are especially interested in candidates with doctoral or post-doctoral experience in fields such as psychology, economics, and finance;
  • Demonstrate a professional level of written and spoken English;
  • Demonstrate an experimental, results-driven, and enthusiastic work attitude;
  • Have a record of having published papers in scientific journals;
  • Stay technology-savvy, familiar with online platforms, social media, and digital content;
  • Build relationships and act as a self-starter. Be able to connect with the scientific community and across Elsevier at different levels within a large international environment;
