Job Description

The Associate Director, Engineering and Broadcast Operations manages the network infrastructure for broadcast, streaming and other distribution networks for all WNET stations and outlets, and ensures the consistent delivery of content across all mediums on a daily basis. As a forward-looking industry leader, the Associate Director, Engineering and Broadcast Operations continuously addresses the changing media landscape by planning, introducing, implementing and monitoring new technologies and/or processes, while managing technical operations staff.  

Specific managerial, supervisory and administrative responsibilities include:

  • Ensures that the Broadcast operations department operates smoothly, and all necessary technical support and equipment is provided.

  • Ensures that the content delivery network is operating efficiently and with the highest degree of uptime, and identifies and implements necessary changes.

  • Determines, and/or provides detailed recommendations, to create more efficient processes.

  • Determines how to resolve technical issues with all content delivery systems, including equipment and software applications, and implements resolutions.

  • Supervises technical operations staff.

  • Manages and makes necessary decisions to adhere to operating budgets and on purchase orders and invoices for the operation.

  • Coordinates with peers across technical operations and within Information Technology to support pre-production, production and post-production needs.

  • Ensures that technical equipment is maintained and remains operational.

  • Maintains supplier relationships to the benefit of WNET’s operations, and makes decisions/recommends changes in suppliers and in terms of supplier relationships.

The Associate Director, Engineering Broadcast and Operations should have at least eight (8) years of engineering and/or technology experience in broadcast operations, knowledge of union affiliations and contracts and solid communication skills. Additional experience must include:

  • Broadcast system networks and contemporary content delivery networks.
  • Television, film, digital and other production methods; Software applications for pre-production, production and post-production.
  • Contemporary and future state methods of content production.
  • Local and server-based systems.

Candidates with experience managing or supervising technical teams/departments are preferred.

The WNET Group offers competitive salaries, excellent benefits, and a supportive working environment.  Salary ranges are based on benchmarked nonprofit and industry related data provided by an outside consulting firm and are commensurate with skills and experience. The hiring salary range for this position is $116,000.00 - $125,000.00.  Internal equity considerations will be reviewed before making a final offer.
