The Opportunity
We are increasing our QPS (QBE Portfolio Solutions) offerings, hiring several roles based out of our London offices with flexible working available. Covering both Lloyd’s and syndicate business our book of delegated business operating across a number of product lines on an international scale. With classes of business including Property, Financial Lines, Casualty, Marine and Energy this is the fastest growing division within QBE International.
We have a newly created role for an Assistant Underwriter to join our growing team. This is a great opportunity to work closely with multiple departments across QBE, with full exposure across the underwriting lifecycle. Partnering with brokers you will be involved in deciding on contracts and premiums for large, technical lines of business whilst developing new opportunities to further grow our existing portfolio.
This role is very relationship driven, both internally and externally, with a portfolio lens across varied product lines worldwide. We are keen to speak with underwriting professionals from any business class who are looking to work within a close-knit team at the start of significant book growth.
Having the right to work in the UK is a requirement for this role. QBE may consider sponsorship at its discretion.

Your new role
Support the review and analysis of the portfolio to ensure continued profitability throughout the market cycle and promote organic growth
Develop new business opportunities for the growing lead/follow space in both the London market and internationally.
Work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders including but not limited to broker, underwriters, cover holders, legal counsel, actuaries, analysts and data scientists.
Make entries, as required, properly and promptly on EO systems to ensure accuracy of data, in relation to Underwriting, Aggregate exposures
Follow the annual business plan for the portfolio and its context to be able to make decisions appropriately
Participate in meetings, as required, to support the development of strategy, share knowledge and best practice
Perform underwriting activities in accordance with all legal and regulatory requirements to ensure obligations are met
Adhere to underwriting standards, instructions and good practice to minimize risk and maximize efficiency
About you
Previous underwriting experience within the general insurance market, whether syndicate or company business.
Clear ability to build rapport and credibility with varying stakeholders within a market-facing role
Good data analysis skills with the ability to identify, manipulate and analysis existing data.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to produce detailed reports at various levels
Good organisation skills with ability to work to deadlines
Flexible approach and ability to recognise and adapt to changing business requirements
