Role Description

As an Assistant Project Manager, you will deliver distinct elements of projects and contribute to overall programmes of work. You will work independently on defined tasks and outputs, supporting effective planning, reporting, controls and stakeholder coordination to help deliver projects to time, cost and quality requirements.

Key Accountabilities

Project Delivery & Work Package Support

  • Work within established procedures to assist in producing plans and schedules for projects, supporting delivery to time and quality standards.
  • Take an active role in coordinating project information (actions, risks, issues, dependencies, deliverables) and escalating exceptions as appropriate.

Planning, Reporting & Insight

  • Independently collate and interpret data to prepare project documents including plans, schedules and reporting outputs.
  • Analyse project data and trends to develop simple, practical recommendations to support senior colleagues’ decision‑making.

Financial & Commercial Support

  • Monitor and review project financial information to identify anomalies or discrepancies and ensure management has access to accurate, up‑to‑date information.
  • Support day‑to‑day commercial administration activities (e.g., tracking changes, assumptions/exclusions, and basic contract communications) within defined authority and guidance.

Process Improvement & Assurance

  • Proactively monitor and evaluate project management processes to identify opportunities to improve processes and systems.
  • Complete complex professional tasks as requested, prioritising workload and interpreting established policies to support the project management function.

Stakeholder Collaboration & Communication

  • Liaise with stakeholders across the business to provide advisory support to internal clients, acting as a focal point for operational project queries.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with colleagues and stakeholders, supporting alignment between policy and operational practice.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline.
  • Relevant experience supporting large and/or complex projects.
  • Good communication skills and confidence working with data, reporting and project control systems.
  • Proficiency in relevant software and systems; working towards a relevant professional certification or chartered status is desirable.
