Job Title: Analyst/Economist/Strategist in Emerging Market Sovereign Debt and Currencies

Job Summary

Barings’ Global Sovereign Debt and Currencies Team is seeking an Economist/Analyst/Strategist to support growth of the Emerging Markets product platform.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Take a lead role in the Emerging Markets Debt team’s research efforts and investment processes.
  • Conduct country analysis focused on sustainable long-term investment returns in EM sovereign credit, rates, and FX.
  • Contribute to the team’s investment views and market risk assessment.
  • Present investment process and investment views to key institutional and retail clients around the world.
  • Leverage their deep knowledge of Emerging Markets, understanding of critical client needs and informed perspective of the Emerging Markets competitive landscape to help facilitate research progress, enhance investment debates and develop innovative products.
  • Collaborate with other investment teams and functional departments within Barings LLC.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years’ experience as analyst with knowledge of emerging markets
  • Experience with Stata, Eviews, Matlab, or other economic programing systems
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Advanced degree in economics or finance preferred
  • Deep understanding of emerging markets across all asset classes
  • Sell side; buy side, international financial institution, government experience a plus
  • Excellent macroeconomic analytical skills
  • Econometrics and economic model building capabilities
  • Ability to work effectively on a small team covering many countries
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with the ability to present effectively to the EM team and other audiences
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including teamwork and collaboration
