Opportunity Overview:

The Analyst will be an integral part of StepStone's Private Equity Secondaries investment team, which recently closed its fifth fund with $7.4 billion of total capital commitments. StepStone deploys billions of dollars per year in private equity secondary deals, including GP-led transactions, LP interests in private equity funds and structured secondary deals (e.g., team spin-outs, direct investments, fund recapitalizations and other special situations).

StepStone prides itself on the firm’s collegial atmosphere, encouraging team-building initiatives and a collaborative approach. The position will have exposure to all levels of the firm globally, from Partners to fellow Analysts, on a daily basis.

Position Overview:

Your main responsibility will be to contribute to all aspects of the secondary deal process, including:

  • Deal sourcing, screening and conducting due diligence on private equity secondary investments (both LP and GP-led transactions);
  • Interact with fund managers/portfolio company management teams to conduct in-depth portfolio and asset-level underwriting and analysis;
  • Perform quantitative and qualitative research and financial modelling/analysis on companies and assets across stages,  industries and geographies;
  • Preparation and presentation of due diligence materials and investment committee memos;
  • Construct an opinion around various investment opportunities and efficiently communicate both verbally and in written materials; with the ability to defend your position in a team environment, including investment committee meetings;
  • Support negotiation/coordination of deal closing/structuring process and post-close monitoring of existing investments; and
  • Occasionally travel for onsite due diligence and to sponsor’s annual meetings to monitor investments.

Requirements:

  • Stellar academic record (university and GPA);
  • 1-2 years of top-tier investment banking, consulting and/or private equity experience;
  • Excellent quantitative skills, including financial modelling, analytical and valuation skills for purpose of evaluating investment opportunities;
  • Strong sense of risk/reward trade-offs, and an ability to display sound investment judgement;
  • Self-starter, with strong ability to think creativity and conduct research to solve problems or find solutions;
  • Ability to communicate and present ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing;
  • Capable of multi-tasking with strong attention to detail;
  • Promote and demonstrate a positive, team-oriented attitude, with desire to work on various projects; and
  • Fluent (written and spoken) English; (additional language skills a plus).
