Role Objective

Here at Howden, we are expanding our data team to reflect the critical nature of our data to our expanding HR department and the fast-paced, international company it is part of.

The Analyst, Business & People Analytics will work on key initiatives to help us ensure that our data is accurate, relevant and able to provide the business with key people insights.

The purpose of this role is to support the Howden people and commercial agendas by working with the rest of the Business & People Analytics team to provide a view of our talent by maintaining people systems and being an expert in reporting from them, and delivering ad hoc analysis to support specific initiatives.

Role Summary

The Analyst, Business & People Analytics will work with the Business & People Analytics team and with the wider Howden HR teams, including HR Operations and HRIS.

In a typical week, this person would spend about:

  • 40% of their time supporting an accurate view of headcount and associated metrics – with systems and tools up-to-date
  • 40% of time developing and maintaining analytical tools – eg. Talent Dashboard, Headcount model, DE&I dashboard
  • 20% of time delivering ad-hoc analysis by reporting from systems and maintaining and implementing other analytical tools across HR

This role will suit a motivated, intelligent, efficient individual with great attention to detail and the ability to work well in a team while delivering high-quality output. The successful candidate would have the capability to understand and manipulate systems and data, the ability to effectively manage and prioritise multiple tasks, and good communication skills.

Key responsibilities and Activities

  • Support an accurate and up-to-date view of employee headcount and associated metrics, working with the relevant teams to get best view of people movements, and with the HRES and HRIS teams to accurately maintain people systems and tools:
    • Run a monthly input process with the HRBPs on potential people movements in the coming months and play back implications for headcount
    • Ensure alignment with the Howden headcount system on start points, assumptions and outputs
    • Maintain a rolling forecast for the next 12 months and projections for the following 2 years and track vs the annual and 3 year plans
    • Develop materials to highlight conclusions and recommend solutions from the model and facilitate conversations with the appropriate stakeholders to drive to action
    • Support building and implementing the annual and 3 year headcount plans
  • Work with supervisor to design, deliver and consolidate and optimise our reporting of survey results across the employee lifecycle:
    • Support the implementation of a holistic framework across all surveys
    • Support the preparation, analysis and presentation of key insights and recommendations from the survey dataset to key HR and business stakeholders
    • Partner with COE champions to support deployment of improvements to employee lifecycle
  • Develop and maintain new analytical tools/dashboards and processes to support the running of the business:
    • Drive development/maintenance of the Talent dashboard and associated monthly/quarterly reviews
    • Partner with the business to understand needs and translate them into technology requirements and apply knowledge to develop new analytical tools and supporting processes as needed
    • Ongoing management/updating of analytical tools/processes (already developed)
  • Support the master data principles for HR Data, defining blueprints for data management systems whilst ensuring the integrity, confidentiality and security of all datasets.
    • Support implementation of policies and guidelines for data management and develop standard operating procedures for data handling and archiving
    • Working closely with the HR Information Systems (HRIS) team, Finance, IT and other data providers to support improved data collaboration, awareness, operational effectiveness and data quality
  • Working with the Manager, Business and People Analytics on initiatives, supporting the change agenda within the Howden HR team
    • Active discussion of reporting needs with stakeholders and proposing enhancements to reporting model based on that
    • Manage multiple projects across workstreams to deliver high quality, zero defect deliverables and leverage manager’s support on complex pieces
    • Generating insights from large and complex datasets, understanding the nuances and inconsistencies in data using appropriate data engineering, analytics and visualisation applications
    • Identify the key drivers and generate hypotheses to solve out stakeholders’ critical issues; find innovative ways to answer critical questions through high quality data research and analysis
  • Build knowledge and share data expertise and techniques to cultivate a data driven culture across the wider HR team
  • Support improvement initiatives and ad hoc analytical tasks (eg. Attrition deep dives, holiday analysis) along with being an analytical “power-user” and coach the team

Qualifications

  • University or college degree
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and quantitative skills
  • Demonstrable experience of working in a demanding environment, preferably a professional services or financial services organisation
  • Computer literate – Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Proven organisational and administrative skills, in a busy, fast-paced environment
  • Experience working with systems, reporting and data
  • Experience in more advanced analytical tools (eg, PowerBI, Alteryx, Tableau)
  • Ability to analyse and solve problems methodologically driving business insights
  • Passionate about leveraging technology to improve performance using data to drive insight and action
  • Previous experience related at least one area of the employee lifecycle beneficial
