What you'll be doing

Future are looking for and AI & Automation Engineer to design and implement smart solutions that improve manual business processes. You'll work with modern tools like , , , and various programming languages (Python, Go, Typescript, PHP, and Java) to create custom automations. In this role, you'll collaborate with teams across Sales, Product, Editorial, IT, and Engineering to identify inefficiencies, understand requirements, and build AI-driven solutions—ranging from prompt-engineered LLM tools to automated workflows—for data analysis, quality assurance, and planning.

Reporting to the Director of Engineering - Systems and Ai, you'll lead projects from ideation to production, ensuring systems are scalable, and well-tested using CI/CD pipelines. As a subject matter expert, you’ll promote responsible AI use, mentor team members, and help shape best practices and governance frameworks. Keeping pace with advancements in AI, LLMs, and automation technologies, you’ll contribute to innovation while documenting solutions and participating in team initiatives like code reviews and hack days.

This role is pivotal in embedding responsible, high-impact AI and automation solutions across Future. You will collaborate across departments (Product, Engineering, Sales, Editorial) to identify opportunities and implement solutions that streamline workflows, enhance productivity, elevate content quality, and drive profitable growth, promoting innovation while upholding Future's values and "trusted, specialist content" ethos.

Experience that will put you ahead of the curve

  • Experience in a relevant technical role - Automation, Software Engineering, AI/ML Engineering
  • Experience designing and implementing process automation solutions using workflow tools and custom scripting/programming.
  • Proficiency in at least one high-level programming language, such as Python, Go, Javascript/TypeScript, Java, or PHP.
  • Hands-on experience applying AI/ML concepts ( LLMs and embeddings) to solve practical business problems, including familiarity with commercial AI APIs and open-source models.
  • Understanding and practical application of modern software engineering best practices: version control (Git), CI/CD principles, automated testing, writing clean, maintainable code.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical ideas effectively to diverse audiences (technical and non-technical) and collaborate across departments.
  • User Focus & Coaching: A customer-centric mindset, empathy for end-user needs, and a coaching approach with a willingness to share knowledge.
