Aberdeen comprises three businesses, interactive investor (ii), Investments, and Adviser, each of which focuses on meeting and adapting to our clients’ evolving needs:

- Our Investments business is a specialist asset manager that focuses on areas where we have both strength and scale to capitalise on the key themes shaping the market, through either public markets or alternative asset classes.
About the Department
The Finance function, led by the Chief Financial Officer, is structured into four specialist teams and three commercially focused business units supporting interactive investor, Adviser, and Investments. The function is further enabled by a dedicated Finance COO Office, ensuring operational excellence and strategic alignment.
The Tax function is one of those specialist teams, led by the Group Tax Director who leads all tax-related matters across the group, operating as a global specialist function to ensure compliance, efficiency, and strategic tax planning.
The Tax function is located predominantly in Edinburgh and London. The function comprises teams covering Tax Reporting, Advisory and International, Public Markets Tax, Private Markets Tax and Indirect and Operational Taxes. This role sits within the Advisory Tax team reporting to the Head of Advisory Tax.
About the Role
As a Tax Advisory Manager, you will play a key role in supporting the Group’s tax governance framework, helping to strengthen the Advisory Tax controls and tax policies, documentation standards, and operational tax strategy. You will work closely with colleagues across the Tax function and business to ensure consistent, well‑governed tax outcomes and provide clear, practical tax advice on a wide range of matters.
You will be a trusted point of contact for internal stakeholders, helping them understand tax requirements, navigate policy changes, assess risks, and ensure that the Group’s public tax strategy is clearly articulated, embedded, and adhered to.
The role offers broad exposure across the Group, including involvement in transfer pricing documentation, entity rationalisation initiatives, operational process improvements, tax governance enhancements, and specific project support. You will also act as a key tax interface with HR on employment tax matters, ensuring well‑coordinated and well‑controlled outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
You will contribute to the Advisory Tax team’s core activities by providing clear, practical tax support on BAU matters, ensuring high‑quality documentation, and maintaining strong governance standards across the Group. The role requires sound technical judgement, good organisational skills, and the ability to work collaboratively across functions.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Provide advisory input on business and operational projects, communicating risks and opportunities early.
- Produce and maintain high‑quality technical papers, governance materials, process documentation, and internal guidance.
- Support legal entity rationalisation, including documentation, step plans, and coordination with Legal and Finance.
- Manage tax policy changes, monitor international developments, and prepare clear briefings for stakeholders.
- Enhance advisory tax controls, documentation frameworks, and review processes to strengthen governance.
- Drive process and efficiency improvements, including better documentation quality and technology‑enabled ways of working.
- Deliver transfer pricing documentation, including local files, policy updates, and coordination of TP working groups.
- Work with HR on employment tax matters, ensuring aligned processes, decisions, and advisor outputs.
- Maintain and update the Group’s tax strategy, ensuring policies are current, well‑documented, and consistently applied.
- Manage external advisors, ensuring pragmatic, business‑focused, high‑quality delivery.
About the Candidate
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
- Proven Tax Advisory background, ideally within a large or complex organisation.
- Professional qualification (ACA/CTA or equivalent) with strong technical judgement, or qualified by experience.
- Adaptable and comfortable in a fast‑changing environment with shifting priorities.
- Commercial mindset, ensuring advice and decisions align with organisational strategy and long‑term value.
- Strong written communication, producing clear, high‑quality technical and stakeholder‑focused documentation.
- Confident communicator and collaborator, skilled at building relationships across functions.
- Ability to create meaningful impact, building trust, constructively challenging stakeholders, and driving positive outcomes.
- Analytical, curious, and detail‑driven, able to challenge information and identify risks.
