We are looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Accounts Assistant to join our growing Finance team. Reporting directly to the Senior Finance Manager, you will be an integral part of a small team of four. To thrive at Smarkets, you will need to be open-minded, personable, and have a keen eye for detail, with the ability to analyze and communicate insights from data.

  • Good communication skills
  • 1+ years of public practice experience
  • Experience with Xero accounting software is desirable
  • Experience with working with auditors - desirable but not essential
  • Part-qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) - desirable but not essential
  • Degree in Accounting or related business field - desirable but not essential
  • Have worked or are curious to work in an agile, start-up like environment
  • Have experience or are keen to work in a multi-disciplinary team/across different teams

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and enter AP invoices into the accounting system
  • Review and reconcile bank statements on a regular basis to ensure accuracy
  • Perform accounts payable (AP) balance sheet reconciliation and resolve any issues arising (e.g. requesting VAT invoices to clear debit balances)
  • Review open Purchase Orders and determine if they should be closed or deleted
  • Ensure all supplier accounts are reconciled against supplier statements
  • Assist in preparing and scheduling payments in accordance with company policies
  • Handle daily vendor payment queries to ensure timely internal and external communication
  • Review all staff expenses, send for manager approvals and ensure prompt payments
  • Monitor daily cash flows, ensuring sufficient funds are available for operations
  • Provide weekly and monthly reports to regulated gaming authorities, ensuring compliance with regulations
  • Support the Senior Finance Manager in the preparation of monthly Management Accounts, including posting journal entries
  • Assist in the Financial Audit process by gathering required documentation and providing support during audits
