Company Description

At Zayo Europe, we’re driven by a bold vision to power the world through connectivity. We’ve built and operated the critical fibre networks that keep businesses, communities, and economies connected. In 2024, we embarked on an exciting new chapter as a standalone company — a milestone that empowers us to innovate, grow, and lead with greater agility. As we continue to evolve, our mission remains clear: to deliver fast, reliable, and scalable infrastructure that fuels the digital world.

The opportunity

Zayo Europe is building in Germany. We own and operate extensive fibre, wavelength, Tier 1 IP networks - and we are investing further in the network, the footprint and the team to become a serious force in the German market. This is not a mature patch with a well-worn playbook - it is a market where the ground is still being broken and where the person in this seat will shape how we go after it.

We are looking for an Account Director who wants that. Someone who sees an unformed market as an opportunity rather than a risk, who is happy to build the plan as well as execute it, and who wants their fingerprints on how Germany develops over the next few years.

The role

This is a hunting role. The majority of your focus will be on new logo acquisition - identifying the organisations in Germany that consume infrastructure at scale, getting into them, and converting them into long-term customers. There is scope to inherit a number of existing accounts to grow and develop, but make no mistake about where the weight sits: we are here to win new business.

You will sell across our full portfolio - Dark Fibre, Wavelengths, Ethernet, IP Transit and cloud connectivity - into carrier, cloud, content and enterprise organisations across Germany and the wider DACH region. We are not hiring for a single vertical. We want people who can read a market, work out where the demand is, and go and get it.

What you will do

  • Own a new business territory in Germany and build the strategy for it - where the opportunity is, who we go after, and in what order

  • Hunt. Prospect relentlessly, open doors that are currently closed to us, and convert high-value infrastructure consumers into customers

  • Develop and execute strategic account plans, with multi-layered engagement across the accounts you pursue - technical, commercial and executive relationships, not a single point of contact

  • Grow the existing accounts in your patch if applicable, finding the expansion and re-term opportunities inside relationships we already hold

  • Work in the field. Get in front of customers and prospects, and build the network of relationships that a market like this runs on

  • Forecast honestly and manage your funnel rigorously in Salesforce

  • Work across our engineering, product, delivery and marketing teams to land what you sell and keep customers happy after you have sold it

  • Contribute beyond your own number - to how the German team operates, how we take our proposition to market, and how we get better

What you will bring

  • A track record of winning new business in telecommunications or infrastructure sales, with the numbers to back it up

  • Strong understanding of the German and wider DACH market - how it works, who the players are, and how buying decisions actually get made

  • Experience selling into carrier, cloud, content and enterprise organisations. Breadth across several of these is more valuable to us than depth in only one

  • The ability to develop and execute strategic account plans and build multi-layered engagement inside target accounts

  • Fluent German and English

  • Comfort with Salesforce and the discipline to keep it accurate

  • Willingness to travel to customers as the role requires

Who does well here

We are being direct about this, because the fit matters more than the CV:

  • Ambitious and high performing. You want to be measured, and you want to win

  • You enjoy a challenge. A market that is still being built appeals to you more than one that is already finished

  • You enjoy building things. Territories, relationships, plans, propositions - you would rather create something than inherit it

  • You can work without perfect structure. We will not hand you a complete playbook, and you will not wait for one

  • You navigate change, uncertainty and ambiguity. Some of this role will be figured out as we go. That energises you rather than unsettling you

  • You are a strong team player. Autonomy here means self-direction, not working alone. The people who succeed on this team make the people around them better

  • You believe in having a wider impact than your job description. You will see things that need doing which are not on this list, and you will do them

What we offer

A genuine opportunity to shape a market rather than maintain one, in a business that owns its own infrastructure and is investing behind its European ambition. Competitive base and commission, and a leadership team that will back you.

Zayo Europe is an equal opportunities employer. We welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds.
