Nokia Research & Innovation’s Security Standardization team is defining the security foundations of 6G across major SDOs such as 3GPP, IETF, and O-RAN. The team translates advanced security research into industry standards covering core/RAN security, privacy, zero trust, AI‑driven security, post‑quantum communications and Non Terrestrial Network communications.
As a Security Standardization Intern, you will work closely with experienced researchers and standards delegates. The role involves exploring and validating new security ideas through empirical research and prototyping. You will gain hands‑on experience in 6G standardization, security research, and technical writing for standards.
Responsibilities- Contribute to the research on 6G direct‑to‑smartphone connectivity via LEO satellites and Non‑Terrestrial Networks, analysing security and resilience challenges such as jamming, spoofing, rogue satellites, space‑weather failures, and complex handovers.
- Contribute to the research on security of AI and Agentic AI, analysing adversarial, privacy, and data‑pipeline risks in AI‑assisted RAN, Core, and edge network functions.
- Evaluate threat and risk models, prototype mitigation and monitoring frameworks, empirical evaluations, and documented guidelines or tooling that improve the trustworthiness of 6G network AI systems.
You have:
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in electrical engineering, information technology, computer science, mathematics, physics, or a related field (or being in the process of completing such a degree or PhD)
- Fluent English (both written and spoken)
- Solid grounding in security and/or wireless systems, with a strong interest in network security, AI/ML security, satellite communications, or 6G research
- Experience with one or more of Python, C++, or Rust; security protocol modelling; cryptographic libraries; RF or network simulation; or ML frameworks, combined with clear technical writing, strong analytical skills, and curiosity about standardization and the 3GPP process.
It would be nice if you also had:
- Knowledge of common security and privacy attacks (e.g., model poisoning, backdoors, adversarial attacks)
Nokia is a global leader in connectivity for the AI era. With expertise across fixed, mobile and transport networks, powered by the innovation of Nokia Bell Labs, we’re advancing connectivity to secure a brighter world.
