The Principal Engineer will shape Masabi's platform architecture, deliver scalable services, act as a technical leader, and navigate complex platform challenges. Responsibilities include design, delivery, influencing technical decisions, and contributing to technical documentation and forums.

Own day-to-day People Operations for a UK-based, globally distributed workforce: onboarding, employee queries, contracts, benefits, HR systems (BambooHR), payroll inputs and vendor coordination. Improve processes, maintain people data, ensure compliance and audit readiness, support people programs (reviews, engagement, compensation), and build scalable, automated workflows to enhance employee experience.

The Principal Engineer (Payments) will lead the technical direction of Masabi's payments platform, designing scalable systems, supporting teams, and facilitating complex technical challenges in payments integration.

Lead Masabi’s bids function, managing competitive tenders from qualification through award for international transit agencies and operators. Own pricing, commercial strategy, bid governance, risk recommendations, resourcing, and cross-functional coordination across business development, product, engineering, services, legal, and finance. Build the team, processes, content, tooling, and AI-enabled practices needed to improve bid quality and win rates while coaching team members and maintaining strong customer and partner relationships.

Develop technical solution strategies with Business Development for transit agency customers. Lead discovery workshops, demos, RFP responses, Statements of Work, procurement documentation, and technical stakeholder engagement. Translate customer requirements into implementable solutions, support delivery handoffs, identify product gaps, and collaborate with Product, Engineering, and PMO on roadmap and implementation needs.

Lead legal work for major public procurements and complex customer contracts, from initial review through negotiation and signature. Draft and negotiate SaaS, licensing, professional services, data processing, partnership, reseller, and NDA agreements. Advise on privacy, data protection, intellectual property, licensing, and cross-jurisdictional commercial matters. Partner with the CEO, CFO, CPO, and General Counsel to assess risk and support business decisions.

Manage a portfolio of UK transport operator and authority accounts, own day-to-day success and long-term outcomes, handle escalations and onboarding, run training and reviews, use product usage data to spot risks and opportunities, feed customer insight to Product/Engineering, and identify growth opportunities with Account Managers.
