Oriole Networks, a London-based company working to improve AI system performance, announced a $22 million Series A funding round. The raise, spearheaded by Plural, brings Oriole’s total funding raised in 2024 to $35 million.
Oriole leverages light to train large language models. Using advanced photonics tech, the company develops networks of AI chips and combines their processing power. The result allows LLMs to be trained up to 100x faster, according to the company, while consuming substantially less power. Oriole’s solutions enable algorithms to run with lower latency and data centers to operate more sustainably.
“This funding is yet another milestone for Oriole following a year of rapid pace and growth. This is a booming market desperate for solutions, and our ambition is to create an ecosystem of photonic networking that can reshape this industry by solving today’s bottlenecks and enabling greater competition at the GPU layer,” James Regan, Oriole Networks’ CEO, said in a statement. “Building on decades of research, we’re paving the way for faster, more efficient, more sustainable AI.”
Backed by its new capital, the company plans to accelerate its growth pace. Oriole will focus on expanding its team and engaging with high-volume suppliers. Its goal is to get its early-stage products to customers by 2025.
