California food delivery innovator DoorDash has announced its acquisition of London-based Deliveroo, a merger valued at £2.9 billion, or approximately $3.9 billion. Aiming to fuel innovation and build a leading solution for local commerce, the combined entity will leverage DoorDash’s operating playbook and Deliveroo’s local expertise.

Deliveroo is a commerce platform that partners with approximately 176,000 local businesses in the restaurant and grocery spaces to provide food delivery services for over 7 million consumers each month. Combining its platform with DoorDash’s reach, the newly conjoined company will have a presence spanning 40 countries and supporting approximately 50 million monthly active users.

“We are now at the beginning of a transformative new chapter. DoorDash and Deliveroo are like-minded organizations with a shared strategic vision and aligned values,” Will Shu, Deliveroo CEO and co-founder, said in a statement. “Together, we will be even better positioned to serve consumers, merchants, riders and local communities. The enlarged group will have the scale to invest in product, technology and the overall consumer value proposition.”

The deal is set to close in the fourth quarter of 2025. DoorDash’s investment in Deliveroo will allow the latter to advance its strategic and operational progress, strengthen its competitive advantage and invest further in innovation as it enhances its platform.
