Who we are About Stripe

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone’s reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About the team

We’re looking for an experienced compliance and risk manager located in London to provide critical support to Stripe’s Affiliate Officers, specifically the Chief Risk Officer (CRO) and Compliance Officers in Stripe’s Ireland and UK affiliate entities. You will play a key role in discharging the Officers’ duties and supporting the Boards of the EMEA regulated entities.

What you’ll do

This role will be instrumental in driving Stripe’s global compliance and risk management efforts, with direct impact across the Group, and will provide an excellent opportunity for a talented candidate to enhance compliance and risk advisory and expertise, deploy cross-functional project management skills, learn about digital assets, and carve out opportunities to grow and develop. The successful candidate will gain wide ranging exposure to Stripe's diverse range of business lines, senior leadership, and the governance and workings of the organization (including the EMEA regulated entity Boards). In this role, you will promote Stripe’s culture of sound risk management by supporting the delivery of a wide range of activities within our compliance and enterprise risk management program. Being proactive and results-oriented, you will help make sure that Stripe’s products, business and operations are subject to the highest of governance standards.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who is exceptionally organized, thorough and detail-oriented, with a background in financial services, payments, digital assets, or other regulated sectors. In this role, you will get a chance to help build, enhance, mature and evolve our compliance and risk management programs and be a key cross-functional partner. Stripe is both a technology company and a financial services company, and you will need to be comfortable in both worlds.

Responsibilities
  • Provide critical support to the EMEA Risk and Compliance Officers.
  • Deliver risk and compliance reporting to regulated EMEA Boards, including preparation of the quarterly CRO reports and associated materials, as well as provide external risk reporting.
  • Execute the Risk & Control Self Assessment, including regional calibration, incorporating emerging risk drivers, preparing the CRO reporting to the Board on the outcome, and addressing key findings.
  • Maintain the global risk register and risk appetite statements, including coordination and management of the annual refresh of the EMEA affiliate risk appetite statements across all of the risk types.
  • Execute a compliance program for consumer protection and PSD2/SCA regulations, including preparing consumer duty reporting, implementing the upcoming Consumer Protection Code in Ireland, and monitoring adherence to the Transaction Risk Analysis exemption.
  • Execute and report on the Enterprise Wide Financial Crime Risk Assessment to support the regulated entities.
  • Oversee and challenge key risk indicator reporting from first line risk owners.
  • Deputize for the CRO in certain governance fora, providing appropriate review and challenge of all matters coming before the group.
  • Provide the necessary support to the CRO on regulatory engagements, including corresponding with the FCA and CBI.
Who you are

We're looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements
  • 10+ years of experience in governance, reporting, risk, audit or other control function-type functions in the financial services/consulting industries.
  • Working knowledge of risk and compliance practices, and a good understanding of the risk and compliance issues that a company like Stripe faces.
  • An aptitude for working in a regulated environment and building risk and compliance by design.
  • Knowledge and understanding of characteristics of effective governance, risk management practices, methodologies of risk assessment, and risk issues that fintech and/or consumer businesses face.
  • Robust communication skills, and an aptitude for communicating clearly and effectively to a wide array of audiences, including senior management, Committees, Boards.
  • Highly effective organisational and project management skills, with a proven track record in meeting deadlines, performing under pressure, and advancing a number of projects simultaneously.
  • A growth mind-set to help scale operational risk initiatives for the future of Stripe.
  • Strong critical thinking, analytical, and data-driven skills, with keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to proactively and independently learn.
  • Experience building and managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders and driving parties towards an optimal outcome.
  • The horsepower to work in an ambiguous, fast-paced environment and to balance multiple priorities and workstreams.
