Banyan Software provides the best permanent home for successful enterprise software companies, their employees, and customers. We are on a mission to acquire, build and grow great enterprise software businesses all over the world that have dominant positions in niche vertical markets. In recent years, Banyan was named the #1 fastest-growing private software company in the US on the Inc. 5000 and amongst the top 10 fastest-growing companies by the Deloitte Technology Fast 500. Founded in 2016 with a permanent capital base setup to preserve the legacy of founders, Banyan focuses on a buy and hold for life strategy for growing software companies that serve specialized vertical markets.

Why Banyan

Unlike typical investment firms or other acquirers, our plan is not to resell businesses down the road. We aim to provide a permanent home for acquired businesses by providing the resources and capital to invest in the teams and growth for decades. The continuation of a company’s legacy, culture, product and team are a staple of our mission. We maintain an appreciation of the strong relationships a privately held business nurtures with their employees, which is why we are committed to treating employees as long-term partners. The promises we make to owners differentiates us from traditional acquirers and highlights our values through the process, which include quick decisions and flexible terms to ensure a structure and a post- acquisition role that suits client-specific desires. ROLE OVERVIEW

Working closely with the UK and Europe Operating Partner, the Portfolio Leader will be responsible for the success of their Portfolio and acquired companies. Off the back of significant growth and as Banyan expands its operations across regions, it is clear the UK, in particular as a market, has tremendous potential and offers significant opportunities to expand the portfolio, therefore Banyan is looking to hire a Portfolio Leader in the UK focused on the success of Banyan’s UK (and likely wider) portfolio.

Role Remit

  • Reporting to the UK and Europe Operating Partner, the Portfolio Leader will be the first port of call for their portfolio companies, responsible for the success of acquired companies. They will leverage the best practices they have developed over years of successfully helping software companies grow to be an active player and partner to companies’ CEOs and founders.
  • They will coach and help drive performance of a portfolio of Banyan-owned but independently run operating companies. Unlike traditional private equity firms, the Portfolio Leader will manage the portfolio from A to Z, with the CEOs of these companies reporting into the Portfolio Leader – a ‘CEO of CEOs’.
  • The initial portfolio will include four companies and is expected to expand significantly in the coming years, across which the key responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):
    • Owning the financial results of the operating companies within their group/market – increasing profitability each year, but not at the expense of long-term growth;
    • Hiring operating company CEO’s (if needed) and ensuring that the right people in senior leadership positions across the operating group are in place;
    • Coaching and mentoring operating company executives on how to drive performance in their businesses;
    • Being the main point of contact at Banyan across portfolio companies, assisting with key strategic decisions relating to people, sales and marketing, product development, pricing, contracts, etc;
    • Bringing their own playbooks for growing industry-specific software companies and helping build upon Banyan’s existing system for improving organic growth; and
    • Working alongside Banyan HQ in evaluating new acquisition opportunities for our group/market that expand Banyan’s presence in the verticals we operate in.
  • Ultimately, one of the key success factors of the role should be someone who ends up running a £50m+ P&L over the next 4-5 years.

PROFILE OVERVIEW

  • The successful candidate will be an experienced business leader and builder who has worked in successful B2B software companies in a hands-on, operational role. They could come from a range of functional backgrounds, including General Management or senior Commercial/GTM leadership within software companies, or bring a proven track record as an operating partner/ portfolio manager with a long-term more PE mindset. They will bring commercial/business leadership expertise and a deep understanding of how to build and scale a profitable B2B software business.
  • An understanding of the Founder/CEO mindset is crucial, with experience either gained through personal experience of founding, acquiring (or being acquired), and/or scaling small-to-mid-sized businesses and/or previous work as a hands-on operating partner/ portfolio manager in culturally relevant environments (i.e. not looking for growth at any cost). The successful candidate will know what “good” looks like in terms of partnering with and coaching Founders.
  • As part of the role will include opportunity scoping and assessment, this person will be able to identify potential investment opportunities and will help assess teams and commercial growth potential, as well as guide on broader industry profit pools and future trends.
  • Gravitas, credibility, and integrity will be key, with a focus on tangible results delivered rather than years of experience. This individual will need to quickly build trust both upwards and downwards and be able to act as a trusted advisor and mentor to management teams, partly on the back of their track record and reputation within the B2B software industry. The caliber of Banyan’s Operating Partners and Portfolio Leaders are one of our most important selling points when speaking to potential sellers.

Compensation and benefits:

  • Competitive base salary and cash bonus;
  • Meaningful equity in this fast-growing company;
  • Generous vacation policy and supplemental health benefits plan; and,
  • Great career development opportunities as Banyan grows.
